As a trainer at Tracen Academy, your work doesn’t stop once your horsegirls finish their careers and win the URA Finale in Umamusume Pretty Derby. The real fun kicks in when you start building a solid team of Veteran Umamusume for Team Trials.
Having a top-tier horsegirl boosts your Team Rank and racks up rewards like Main Story goodies and Carats, which you can use to unlock more Characters and Support Cards. That’s why it’s super important to train strong horsegirls. This guide breaks down how to get your Uma to A Rank or higher.
How to Hit A-Rank in Umamusume Pretty Derby
Free-to-play players can usually get their horsegirls to a B or B+ rank after their careers, but climbing to A or A+ takes some serious planning and effort.
To get an A-rank Uma, you need her overall rating to hit at least 10,000 by the end of her career. This rating comes from her attribute points and skill scores (not the same as skill points). So, to get that A, you’ve got to focus on pumping up her stats and skills smartly.
How to Boost Attribute Points in Umamusume Pretty Derby
Attribute Points bump up your horsegirl’s stats like Speed, Stamina, Power, Guts, and Wit. For an A-rank Uma, aim for at least one SS+ and one B+ or A in her attributes to help hit that 10,000 rating. Focus on maxing out two stats, like Speed and Wit, during her career.
Before you start training, grab a strong set of Support Cards. These give your horsegirl free stats and skill hints just by training with them. Go for SSR or SR cards that match the stats you’re targeting, like Speed and Wit. Also, pick high-rank Legacy Parents—ideally three-star with matching aptitudes and double or triple-circle Affinity—that boost the same stats. These give you extra stat points through Sparks at the start and during training.
When training, keep hammering those two chosen stats (like Speed and Wit). Train in sessions where a bunch of your support friends show up for bigger boosts. Instead of resting to recover energy, train in Wit to keep energy up, unless it’s really low. This works great in Summer sessions when stats double.
Unlock Friendship Training with your support cards early by training in sessions with most of them present. These sessions give way more stat points than regular ones, helping you hit A-rank faster.
How to Up Your Skill Rating in Umamusume Pretty Derby
Your horsegirl’s Skill Score is the other big factor in getting an A-rank. This comes from the points her purchased and unique skills add to her total. There’s no official guide for this, but you can boost it by upgrading her Unique Skill first, then training her in abilities where she’s got an A rating.
For example, get your Uma to three stars, then spend Skill Points on traits that play to her strengths. For Daiwa Scarlet, who’s got an A in Pace as a Pace-Chaser, grabbing Preferred Position is a smart move.
Stick to skills where your Uma shines (A or S-rated aptitudes), and don’t keep buying the same skill over and over—it gives fewer points each time. If a skill costs too much, wait for a Skill Discount to save your Skill Points.
