Assassin's Creed just had a soft reboot in recent years, with games jumping from one setting to another all over the course of history. From Origins' Ancient Egypt to Odyssey's Ancient Greece and Valhalla's Ancient Nordic... each version has a different theme comparing to the previous titles in the franchise.
However, there are only that many interesting settings... and based on the leaks, it looks like India's turn would come very soon. In this article, we would list out everything you need to know.
1 - About the leaked map
The image was first posted in 4channel yesterday, by a person claimed to be a "Ubisoft Insider".
Apparently, the alleged next AC game is going to take place in the Indian Subcontinent during the 17th century period. The story might take players to various regions in modern India, Pakistan and Bangladesh... and the world map is going to be larger than AC: Valhalla's map. Taj Mahal, India's most famous landmark, is very likely to make an appearance.
It is going to have a fixed, unchangeable female protagonist - the first time this has been done in a new AC game - previously, you can pick whichever gender you want to play as. This collides with another leak released previously, revealing the fact that the next AC protagonist might be female.
The emphasis would be put on the rivalry between the British East India Company and the Dutch East India Company... however, there hasn't been any talk about naval gameplay. The bounty system from Assassin's Creed Odyssey is going to be brought back - with each region has its own bounty system. If you have a bounty in the Mughal Empire you won't bring it to Dutch-India.
AC: India would be next-gen only - PS4 and Xbox One players would not be able to play it.
2 - How trustworthy is this?
Ubisoft has a history of leaking info every time a new AC game gets made. Based on the various details, the likeliness that the next AC game going to take place in India is about 50%. Fans reaction about this leak is somewhat lukewarm, as a lot of people just dislike this period in general.
