In Umamusume Pretty Derby, every character has a knack for certain running styles, and there are four of them in the game right now. One of those is the Pace Chaser style. Some skills just click better with Pace Chasers than they do with, say, a Front Runner. Here’s a rundown of the top skills to look out for if you’re building a Pace Chaser.
Pace Chaser Savvy
Skill Cost: 110
Skill Description: Moderately boosts your ability to snag a good spot in the race. (Pace Chaser)
Pace Chasers need to stay near the front to make their skills shine, so nailing your position is key. This skill helps you get there without stressing too much about your Wit stat. There’s also a beefed-up version of this skill that makes positioning even smoother.
Hydrate
Skill Cost: 180
Skill Description: Slightly restores endurance during the middle of the race. (Pace Chaser)
Endurance is a big deal in this game, and you can never have enough. Hydrate is a solid pick because it gives your Pace Chaser a stamina boost mid-race, keeping them in the fight.
Race Planner
Skill Cost: 180
Skill Description: Cuts down on fatigue mid-race. (Pace Chaser)
This skill sounds straightforward, but there’s a catch: it only kicks in if you’re in the front half of the pack during the middle of the race. If you pull that off, it restores some stamina, which is a game-changer for longer races.
Speed Star
Skill Cost: 180
Skill Description: Boosts your ability to pull ahead of the pack at the final corner. (Pace Chaser)
This skill is a go-to for most Pace Chaser builds. It helps you break free from the crowd at the last corner, which is huge if you’re trying to catch up to those Front Runners. It’s an upgraded version of a skill called “Prepared to Pass,” which does something similar but not as well.
Technician
Skill Cost: 120
Skill Description: Moderately improves smooth navigation. (Pace Chaser)
Technician is a rare skill, kind of like a fancier version of Shrewd Step. It’s great for keeping your positioning tight without too many conditions holding you back (other than being a Pace Chaser, of course).
