Minecraft is a surprisingly deep game, with a lot of hidden mechanics that are not clearly explained to players. Amongst them, mobs or entities are the ones with the most secret mechanics. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the 10 hidden things you might not know about Minecraft mobs.

1. Pillagers can be disarmed

Most hostile mobs in Minecraft cannot be tamed, especially the humanoid ones such as the Pillagers. They are usually a pain to deal with due to their aggressiveness and litany of weapons. However, if players manage to break their weapons, the pillagers pretty much become passive. Afterward, they can be led around just like a pet.

This trick can be done to crossbow-wielding pillagers, as the crossbow break faster.

2. Cobweb and Water prevent zombies/skeletons from burning in the sun

Undead mobs in Minecraft are burned by the sun, which makes keeping them around difficult. However, players can prevent this from happening by using cobweb or water blocks.

While undead mobs are inside these two blocks, they won't burn at all, leaving players to do whatever they want.

3. Wolf tails height indicates its remaining health

If players are leading several tamed wolves around, this is a good way to check their health for healing. Wolf tails stand straight at full health and drop low as they get injured. Just feed them meat to heal when needed.

4. Zombies can transform

There are three variants of zombies in Minecraft: normal zombies, husk and drowned. A husk that drowns converts to a zombie, which then converts to a drowned.

To do this, just submerge the head of a standard zombie or drowned underwater for 30 seconds or more to trigger the conversion. 15 seconds later, the zombie or husk would be converted to their wetter variants.

5. Creepers are scared of cats

Creepers are one of the most annoying threats in Minecraft, as their explosions can both kill and destroy your build. While lit up the whole area is an option, it is better to just get a few cats or ocelot. Creepers are terrified of these creatures - just tie them around your base to create a perfect creeper-proof zone.

These two mobs also work on phantoms as well, which appear after players have not slept or died for three or more in-game days.

6. Endermen are not hostile against players wearing carved pumpkins

Endermen are dangerous mobs in Minecraft who can teleport and aggressively attack players en masse. They are triggered when players look directly at their eyes.

Wearing a carved pumpkin prevents this from happening. All Endermen would become neutral and only attack when provoked. This item is vital when exploring the Nether.

7. Undead Mobs can be healed with Potion of Harming

Potion of Harming inflicts Instant Damage, which is an instant status effect that decreases health for living mobs and heals the undead. If players are using a skeleton horse, having some of these potions on hand is a must.

This is also useful in PVP, as an Instant Damage IV potion is powerful enough to kill a player instantly.

8. Shulker's bullets can be countered with Chorus fruits

Shulkers guard the treasure rooms in End Cities. These mobs look like Purpur blocks until they open their shell to peek outside. If they see a player, they will open up fully and start shooting. Shulkers fire guided projectiles, which will follow you even around corners and are hard to dodge.

If you are hit by a Shulker projectile, you will start to levitate for 10 seconds. If you don’t find a way to stop yourself from rising too high in the air, you will have a long way to fall when the effect wears off. The best antidote is to eat a Chorus Fruit (obtained by breaking the Chorus Plants in the End). Afterwards, players can get their shells to create the portable shulker chests.

9. Villagers can summon Iron Golems

In Java Edition, a villager can attempt to spawn an iron golem while not having a golem alive within the box of radius 16 blocks around the villager and more than 30 seconds have passed. Players can use this mechanic to create an iron golem farm. Zombies nearby increase the spawn rate of iron golems. If a zombie is seen by villagers, they panic and increase the rate of spawn attempts.

An iron golem needs an available volume in which to spawn. There must be at least 3 transparent blocks above the spawning surface, and that surface must be solid and flat (but not a bottom slab).

10. Using Donkeys and Mules to carry your stuff

Once you have tamed a donkey or mule, right click on it whilst holding a chest to equip it to the animal. Afterward, they would gain a number of item slots for your to store your items.
