The people behind Genshin Impact, HoYoverse, just dropped a quick in-engine clip teasing their next big thing. It's billed as an open-world MMO, but it doesn't resemble Genshin or anything else they've put out from the Chinese company.
Right now in November 2025, HoYoverse is keeping five games alive: Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Honkai Impact 3rd, Zenless Zone Zero, and Tears of Themis. They've got a bunch more in the pipeline at their Shanghai HQ. A few, like the cozy Animal Crossing-style Petit Planet, are out in the open. But others are still hush-hush, like this open-world MMORPG that's supposedly using Unreal Engine 5, based on some old job ads that popped up.

HoYoverse Shares Video Teaser for Unreal Engine 5 Open-World Fantasy MMO
HoYoverse's constant hunt for new talent has spilled more beans on their mystery MMO. ResetEra poster L.O.R.D. spotted that the company posted some in-engine footage on RedNote, the social app. It's just 19 seconds long and doesn't show much—just a fantasy scene with what looks like a magical rock or root thing and some riders way off in the distance. Still, it's obvious they're switching things up big time; this Unreal Engine 5 MMO is going for realistic looks, a total break from the anime style they're famous for with Genshin.
HoYoverse's UE5 Game Will Have PvP
An promo pic that went with the RedNote video gives more clues. It mentions stuff like PvP, boss fights, "all-terrain battle AI," and an "Eco System"—no clue what those last two mean yet. The short note with the clip talks about a huge fantasy realm full of legendary heroes to team up with, beasts and "evil ghosts" to take down, and old secrets to dig up. It suggests there's a buddy system where you can bond with your companions. On the plot side, it's about getting to "restore the collapsed order, end the corrupt contract, and face the impermanent divine will," per a rough translation.
Restore the collapsed order, end the corrupt contract, and face the impermanent divine will.
This Unreal Engine 5 game from HoYoverse has probably been cooking for at least a year, since they started posting jobs for UE5 pros back in August 2024. Could be for something else, but companies usually dip a toe in with one project before going all in on a new engine. Regardless, this mystery MMO is still super early and could be years away from launch.

HoYoverse usually drops their games on PC, consoles, and mobile. UE5 might make mobile trickier for this one, but it's not impossible. Games like Fortnite, Infinite Nikki, and Game of Thrones: Kingsroad are already doing UE5 on phones, and more are coming.
