The next version of Grand Theft Auto Online, coming with the new main game, is set to crank up the action. It’s using a beefed-up version of the current peer-to-peer system, with some big upgrades, like way more players in each session.

Bigger Lobbies and Upgraded Tech

According to Fravilys, Rockstar Games is aiming to handle a lot more players at once. Word is they’re targeting 96 players per session, though current tests are running with 64 players.

If you’ve played GTA Online, you know it’s got some limits. Rockstar’s looking to fix those for the next version. Besides packing in more players, they’re supposedly working on tech that could get rid of loading screens completely.

Seamless Gameplay and Content Creation

If this tech works out, it’d let you move between different game worlds without a hitch. This is especially cool since Rockstar’s reportedly planning to make Grand Theft Auto 6 a major hub for content creators. Picture this: you’re cruising through Los Santos and want to join a race with friends in another session. Instead of dealing with menus, matchmaking, and loading screens, you just drive to the race spot and jump in.

We’ve already seen what Rockstar can pull off with the PlayStation 5 in the second GTA 6 trailer, so is it really a shock they’d want to make the next GTA Online a huge step up?

The current GTA Online, which kicked off in October 2013, has been a cash cow for Rockstar, raking in billions through its game-as-a-service setup. It’s one of the most profitable entertainment products ever.

With that kind of track record, Rockstar’s got to make the sequel even better. From what’s out there, they seem to be on the right path. But game development can be a wild ride, and cool ideas don’t always make it to the final game. For Grand Theft Auto V, tons of stuff got left out, like aliens and a Trevor Philips DLC. Tech issues, balance problems, or just creative choices could shake up these plans before launch.

Rockstar hasn’t confirmed any of this yet, and they’re known for keeping things quiet until they’re ready to spill the beans. Still, if even some of these features make it into the game, the next GTA Online could change the way we look at open-world multiplayer games.
