By day three of Elden Ring Nightreign, your squad’s up against a Nightlord—a tough boss that’ll really test how well your team works together. One of these Nightlords, Maris, Fathom of Night, is the big bad you’ll face at the end of the Augur expedition. Unlike most bosses who stick to the ground, Maris is always floating or flying around.
This makes things rough for melee builds trying to land hits. But if you’re running a ranged build or spellcaster, you’re in for a good time on this expedition. Here’s a solid game plan to take down Augur in Elden Ring Nightreign.
Best Party Composition For Augur In Elden Ring Nightreign
Maris, Fathom of Night loves zipping around the arena, making it a nightmare for melee players to keep up. Even if you get close, you’ll likely burn through your stamina before you can do much damage.
Because of this, your best bet is a party full of ranged fighters or spellcasters. If you’re playing with buddies, a three-person Ironeye squad can shred this Nightlord. It’s also a good idea to make sure everyone’s at least level 12 for a fair fight.
Here’s what works best for the Augur expedition:
- A full team of Ironeyes.
- A mix of one Recluse and two Ironeyes.
If you’re teaming up with randoms, pick Ironeye to give your group the best shot.
Elemental Weakness Of Maris, Fathom of Night
Like all Nightlords, Maris, Fathom of Night has a weak spot for a specific element—in this case, Lightning.
While exploring Limveld on days one and two, hunt for weapons, items, or buffs that deal or boost lightning damage. You can snag elemental weapons in a few ways:
- Check out ruins tied to the element and beat the boss there.
- Buy elemental weapons from merchants.
- Take down tough enemies roaming Limveld.
If the loot gods aren’t on your side, grab some Lightning Grease to tip the scales.
Recommended Combat Strategy For Augur Boss Fight
The Augur Nightlord fight breaks down into three phases: attack, dream, and sleep bomb. Knowing what Maris does in each phase will help you move around the arena, counter its moves, and take it down without too much hassle.
Augur Attack Phase
In this phase, Maris floats around, tossing out sleep squids that chase you down and explode. If you get caught in the blast, it hits your FP and HP and stacks the sleep status effect.
Maris also has three main attacks to watch for:
- Crashing Waves: Maris picks one player and chucks waves at them. Dodge into the wave, not away, to avoid getting hit.
- Vertical Tornado AOE: Maris flies up, then slams down with a big tornado-like AOE attack. Sprint away or time your dodge to avoid it.
- Horizontal AOE: Maris also does a ground-level sweep that hits hard. Dodge at the right moment to stay safe.
Maris also spawns a bunch of tentacles that swing at anyone nearby. These tentacles don’t have much HP, so if you’re close, take them out to avoid getting swarmed. Plus, killing them spawns blue orbs that automatically fly at Maris, dealing some free damage.
Augur Dream Phase
When Maris loses about 30% of its HP, it floats away and curls up for a quick nap. During this dream phase, it starts piling on the sleep status effect for everyone. If you fall asleep, you’re stuck for a bit and take major FP and HP damage.
You can snap Maris out of this phase by hitting it with enough lightning damage or using a heavy-hitting ultimate art.
At around 50% HP, Maris drops a massive sleep bomb—think of it like a nuke that covers half the arena. It deals huge damage and instantly applies the sleep status effect. Luckily, it falls slowly, so archers and mages can shoot it down before it lands.
Later, Maris ups the ante by dropping two sleep bombs, each covering half the arena. If you’re with friends, talk it out to split up and take down both bombs before they hit. A team of Ironeyes with lightning bows can make quick work of this fight since Maris’s attack patterns aren’t too wild.
