Darkness is known as a returning resource in Hades 2, and players of the first Hades game will recognize it right away. However, it’s less common in Hades 2, mainly because there are many new reagents, materials, and resources that Melinoe needs for her general Updates and Incantations. That said, it's still useful to know how to farm Darkness in Hades 2 and the best ways to obtain it consistently.
Where To Find Darkness in Hades 2
In the first Hades game, you could find Darkness almost everywhere. Still, in Hades 2, this resource is much harder to come by. This makes sense since Nyx, the goddess of night and darkness, is currently imprisoned by Chronos. Despite this, Melinoë will still need some Darkness to become stronger. To obtain it, players need to progress in the game until they unlock the ability to have Chaos Gates appear during their travels through Oceanus, Erebus, and other regions.
Once you can find and access Chaos Gates in Hades 2, make sure to enter every Chaos Gate you come across. Inside, talk to Chaos and accept their Boon. After a certain number of interactions or runs, Chaos will give you one Darkness for free at the end of a conversation. Once this happens, every time you enter Chaos' lair, there will be a chance to find a piece of Darkness waiting for you to collect. The exact number of interactions needed to trigger this is still unclear, but consistently visiting Chaos Gates will increase your chances.
How To Farm Darkness in Hades 2
While most materials, resources, and reagents have reliable farming methods, Darkness is a bit different. There’s no consistent way to farm Darkness in Hades 2 efficiently. The best approach is to take every Chaos Gate you come across and hope to find some Darkness inside, as we stated. Unlike other late-game materials, which can be purchased from the Wretched Broker for a high price (such as 1000 Bones for one Nightmare), Darkness is not available for purchase from the Broker.
What’s more, Darkness won't always appear in Chaos' Lair; it's random each time, so there's no guarantee you'll get any Darkness during a run. Fortunately, few recipes currently require Darkness, so you don't need much of it, at least in the Early Access version of the game. Nevertheless, given its current limited use, Supergiant Games might add more Incantations or recipes requiring Darkness in future updates. It's important to note that Melinoë is a distinct character from Zagreus, and Hades 2 offers more than just a continuation of the original game's gameplay.
