Powered Rail is one of the most interesting contraptions in the Minecraft world. It is a special block that can change the velocity of minecarts that pass over them. By using them, players can create a system of Minecarts and transportation from one place to another, at a very high speed.

In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase how to make Powered Rail with Redstone in Minecraft 1.19.

How to make a Powered Rail in Minecraft

You need the following items to make a powered rail using Redstone in Minecraft:

  • 1 stick + 6 gold ingots + 1 redstone dust

Once you have collected the material, just fill the two columns of the crafting grid with gold ingots. After that, put a piece of Redstone dust in the bottommost cell of the middle column. Next, put the stick in the cell right above the Redstone dust, in the middle of the crafting grid.

How to craft Powered Rail in Minecraft

1 Stick

Sticks can be crafted using 2 wooden planks of any type.

6 Gold Ingots

Gold Ingots can be acquired from treasure chests or mining Gold Ores. Gold ore generates from levels -64 to 32, in all biomes. A new block called Deepslate gold ore now spawns in all biomes of the overworld, from layers 0 to 32. The best level to locate gold is -16.

Gold in Minecraft can be found fairly easily in the overworld.

1 Redstone Dust

Players can find Redstone ores generate in the Overworld in the form of blobs. They can be found in levels -63 to 15, the lower the elevation the better. For guaranteed spawn:

  • 5 lengths of redstone dust can be found in one type of jail cell room in a woodland mansion.
  • 15 lengths of redstone dust are naturally generated as part of the trap in each jungle pyramid.
  • Multiple pieces of redstone dust can be found integrated into circuitry in Ancient Cities.

When mining Redstone Ore, players can get 4 or 5 redstone dust (or more with Fortune, averaging at 6 redstone dust with Fortune III). The block drops itself when mined with Silk Touch.

Redstone dust is a pretty uncommon spawn.

How to Use a Powered Rail in Minecraft

Whether it’s activated or not, the powered rail always acts as a road for minecarts to travel over. It can either be used as a speed boost or brake for minecarts.

Players actually don't need to use too many power rail blocks - they can just place them occasionally with normal rails.

Speed Boost

Place a power rail on the ground as part of your rail network. Afterward, place a lever next to the powered rail and activate it to turn the rail on. Then, push the minecart towards the powered rail and watch it get a speed boost.

A plain minecart with you in it will travel at maximum speed for 38 blocks on flat ground after passing over three powered rails in a row. To maintain top speed, place one powered rail every 38 blocks.

Brake

Whenever an active minecart will reach the inactive powered rail, it will automatically come to a halt.
