Rockstar Games fan Vadim M. first shared this on social media. A user on the GTA Forums posted a download link for this early version of GTA Vice City. Vadim says this version is for the PS2 and was made on October 2, 2002, just a month before the game’s release. Even though it’s close to the final version, there are still some interesting changes and additions for fans to enjoy.

Differences from the Final Game

The original link was shared on the GTA Forums by a user named IAmNotToniCipriani. Some fans quickly downloaded it and started exploring the game on PC using an emulator. GTA Forums user Sergiu discovered that the game still has a debug menu, which developers used. This menu lets players see things like hardware usage and the number of objects in the game, making it fun for those who want to experiment.

This version has some differences from the final game. It includes car models, wheels, and other elements from the beta version. There are also different character models, like SWAT officers, along with changes to the theme music, intro, and cutscene camera angles and animations. It is believed to be the preview build made for GameSpot.

What’s More?

This is another pre-release GTA build that has leaked recently. Just last month, early versions of GTA: Liberty City Stories for PSP were also leaked on the GTA Forums. Fans noticed that many GTA Vice City assets were used as placeholders, along with early vehicle designs. You can learn more about these leaks and their differences from the final game here.

This version also has new music for the credits and other parts of the game. The HUD, which is always visible, has a thicker black outline around the text. Some players who tried these beta builds have started uploading gameplay videos to YouTube.
