YouTube's big Minecraft star and music guy, Clay "Dream," just dropped a video called "I might not ever play Minecraft again," and it got his fans pretty worried about his future with the game that made him famous online. Some folks figured it was just another hook to get clicks, but the creator shut that down right away and basically said his gaming time could be wrapping up.

Dream broke his wrist

He kicked off the video like this: "The title is not clickbait. I may never be able to play Minecraft again, at least as good as I used to be. I haven't really expressed my true feelings with people around me..." From there, he got into why his Minecraft run might end soon, pointing to a wrist injury from early 2025. Even now, Dream's still got a cast on it. That points to a pretty bad injury, since he's still in recovery mode.

As for what caused it, Clay talked about sparring with his fellow creator Sapnap, who was prepping to box Tubbo for the now-scrapped Creator Clash 3 event: "I went and sparred [Sapnap] in our garage, and I broke my wrist in the process. I was throwing punches in ways that you shouldn't and the adrenaline was pumping, I don't know... I threw some overhand [punches]... hitting with my wrist... I broke a bone called the scaphoid." (Timestamp - 1:11)

So, after messing around in sparring with bad technique against Sapnap, Dream ended up with a scaphoid fracture—that's a crack in one of the wrist's carpal bones, usually from landing on an outstretched hand, or here, from too much wrist-banging in boxing. He pointed out that the scaphoid is "one of the hardest bones in the body to heal": "It is one of the hardest bones in the body to heal. My luck. Yes, one of the hardest bones in the body to heal. It's because there's only one artery, I guess, that goes to the bone. And so if you break it, then parts of the bone can't properly receive blood and therefore can't heal as easily." (Timestamp - 1:54)

Clay also skipped getting it checked because it didn't hurt much. That choice probably made things worse.

Dream speaks about moving forward with a scaphoid fracture

Even though the pain didn't mess with his everyday stuff too bad, his skills in Minecraft took a real hit: "I was not as good at the game. My aim was off. I was having really a hard time aiming, I guess, and fighting people, PvPing because [of] my wrist..." (Timestamp - 2:54)

Once he noticed his wrist wasn't moving right, Dream headed to the doc, learned how rough it was, and got the news that he'd need surgery. He went through two operations, then landed in a cast. When the cast comes off, he'll hit physical therapy to try and get his wrist working normally again. In the end, though, Dream admitted there's no sure thing it'll be perfect. Still, he told fans he'd do whatever it takes to get fully back in action:

"Every day I woke up and had to work on, and I have no doubt in my mind that I'll do the exact same thing here and it will be a comeback story and it'll be something you know for the ages... we'll come back..." (Timestamp - 8:29)

Around mid-2025, Dream posted on X that he wouldn't "be participating in Pride Month."
