The Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.80 update, dropped on May 6, 2025, packs a bunch of new stuff, gameplay tweaks, mob fixes, and experimental features to make Bedrock Edition even better. Here’s a comprehensive rundown of the patch notes, covering flat world presets, gameplay upgrades, mob fixes, and other cool additions.
Key Features and Additions
Flat World Presets
What’s New: Flat world presets, a hit from Java Edition, are now in Bedrock. You can find them in the Advanced tab when creating a new world with flat world mode on.
Options: You get presets like Classic Flat, Tunnelers’ Dream, Water World, Overworld, Snowy Kingdom, Bottomless Pit, Desert, and Redstone Ready—great for builders and techy players.
Community Input: Mojang’s looking to add more presets (like The Void) and wants your thoughts at https://aka.ms/mcflatworldfeedback.
Gameplay Improvements
Java Edition Parity
Totem of Undying: Now gives you 45 seconds of Regeneration, matching Java.
Crafting: You can craft Cut Sandstone with a Stonecutter, and Cut Sandstone Slabs from Cut Sandstone.
Block Behavior: Stuff like flowers, bamboo, Hanging Roots, Mangrove Propagule, and Nether Sprouts now has the same random placement as Java.
Elytra and Fireworks: Fireworks with Elytra only boost your movement now (even if placed on a block while gliding), so no more weird lag issues.
World Generation
Trail ruins in Mutated Birch Forests now spawn the same way in Java and Bedrock for the same seed.
UI and Accessibility
Added a Filter Profanity toggle for PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox to keep things friendly, especially for kids.
Fixed UI glitches, like a pop-up for Not Enough Disc Space in the Edit World screen’s Resource Packs tab and stopped the main menu background from spinning for new players.
Touch controls got better, with clearer Dismount and Jump button icons.
Audio Fixes
Block sounds are more consistent, and biome-specific music works better.
No more music or sounds playing after you hit Save and Exit.
Realms
You can now pick your region for Realms hosting via an Advanced tab in settings (though it might get overridden if servers are full).
Fixed server sync issues when traveling through portals on Realms.
Mob Fixes
Mob Behavior
- Named Slimes and Magma Cubes keep their names after splitting.
- Creakings don’t vanish when you reload the world.
- Parrots can mimic more mobs now, like Phantoms, Zoglins, Guardians, Ravagers, Pillagers, and Blazes.
- Wither Skeletons and Zombified Piglins can stroll through lava.
- Camels won’t spawn in tiny spaces anymore.
- Farmer Villagers don’t get stuck picking up crops.
- Evokers have proper leg animations when moving.
- Fixed mobs having trouble hitting players who stand still at close range.
Spawn Eggs
Farm animal spawn eggs in Mangrove Swamp biomes now spawn the same Chicken, Cow, and Pig variants as Java.
Reverted Change: Rolled back a fix that made “invincible pet” mobs despawn, so your pets stay safe in older worlds.
Experimental Features (Drop 2 2025 / Summer Drop)
Happy Ghast and Related Mobs:
- Dried Ghast: Hangs out in the Nether. Mine it or remove its waterlogging, and it stays “dry.” Keep it waterlogged for 20 minutes, and it spawns a Ghastling.
- Ghastling: A baby Happy Ghast that follows players or certain mobs within 32 blocks of where it spawned. Feed it snowballs to grow into a full Happy Ghast.
- Happy Ghast: A flying mount that can carry up to four players. Tame it with a Harness for new ways to travel or build sky bases.
Vibrant Visuals
A graphical boost for powerful devices (like Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4/5, PC, or Android with Adreno 640, Mali-G68, Mali-G77, or Xclipse 530 or better).
Turn it on with the Vibrant Visuals toggle in the Experimental tab when creating or editing a world. Pick Favor Visuals or Favor Performance in Video Settings.
Fixed PBR textures for candles, chiseled bookshelves, and dried kelp blocks, plus corrected stained glass colors.
Locator Bar
Replaces the Experience Bar in multiplayer, showing colored markers for players within 120 degrees of your camera (with arrows if they’re 30 degrees above or below).
Hide from it by crouching, wearing a Mob Head/Carved Pumpkin, or drinking a Potion of Invisibility.
Technical Notes: You need the Drop 2 2025 experimental toggle on. These features are still being worked on and might change.
Bug Fixes
Blocks
Deepslate Redstone Ore: Lights up properly when you interact with it and doesn’t stay lit forever.
You can now use items on Mob Spawners without issues.
Mangrove Roots work as furnace fuel.
Gameplay
Fixed crashes during Realm uploads, chunk generation, and foliage texture loading.
Bed sleep positions and respawn collisions are fixed for gliding or swimming.
Sprinting in water isn’t faster than swimming anymore.
Technical
Marketplace add-ons load correctly, and the main menu works after canceling server transfers.
Potion of Slowness IV is grouped with other slowness potions in the Creative menu.
Unknown recipes are blocked when the dolimitedcrafting game rule is on.
Other Notes
Removed Features: Virtual and Mixed Reality support is gone, as previously announced.
Platform Support: Out on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and PC. On consoles, it’s called Minecraft Update 3.11.
