The FPS genre is one of the oldest genre in video games. 10 - Doom (2016)
Battling the horde of evil has never been so awesome before. The 2016 remake of Doom has managed to bring the franchise back to modern gaming. Every encounter with the devils is different, either because of the amazing level designs or the variety of creatures that appears. T
he multiplayer is also a bright point, with fast-paced combat from the campaign combined with the ingenuity of real people – the challenge level was kicked to a new notch. Overall, id Software has done exceedingly well to create a game worthy of the Doom name.
9 - Apex Legends
Apex Legend has been a great hit with the fan of the fps genre since its release. The game is partly played like a hero shooter, with characters having abilities and ultimates. The other part? Battle Royale mechanics from Fortnite. With a fresh and creative combination of gameplay mechanics, Apex has almost succeeded in overthrowing Fortnite, something people thought impossible at the time.

8 - Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Ingrained in many gamer’s brains are the fond memory that they had with Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The most innovative thing that the game has over its competitions are the environment destructibility – at a level that we have never seen before in a shooter. The ability to destroy walls or any cover with sufficient firepower has made the game remain fresh for quite a long time.
Each multiplayer map also had a lot of details and coupled with the polished gameplay, Battlefield 2 would always be able to get players back for another round.
7 - Golden Eye 007
Being one of the few good movie based videogame ever created, Golden Eye 007 is the staple title for the Nintendo 64. The game has raised the bar for first-person shooters by bringing a wide range of the weapon to a campaign that follows the plot of the movie to a letter. And when combined the gameplay with the ability to do split-screen multiplayer, Golden Eyes has become a lot of people’s best FPS ever played.
6 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Remastered)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is pretty much the most realistic Call of Duty game to date, And that’s why people loved it. With later Modern Warfare games getting too modern, with all the exoskeleton suits and the like, a lot of fans are craving for some good ‘ol shooting people in the face. The remastered version of CoD 4 boasting great graphics, with 4k resolution support.
For now, we can probably crown CoD 4 as the best game of its franchise to date.
5 - Half-life 2
Half-Life 2 comes from Valve, one of the biggest names in the FPS genre. It is a worthy sequel to the legacy of the first Half-Life. When it came out, the game was nothing less than revolutionary, with all its physical mechanics plus the grappling gun. Now? The game is still very solid with today’s standard.
There is a separate way to play Half-Life 2 multiplayer, called Half-Life 2: Death Match. It’s a highly enjoyable experience.
4 - BioShock Remastered
BioShock was one of the best game ever made, placed on the very top of video gaming, with both interesting gameplay, story, and aesthetics. Explore the city of Rapture while fighting supernatural enemies with your own supernatural power, following one of the most engaging story ever written in gaming. The remastered version of Bioshock improves the graphics with the new engine, amplified the experience tenfold.
3 - Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
Siege has perfected the Tactical Shooter formula that every previous Rainbow six games made use of. Since its release 4 years ago, the level designs and gameplay elements have been improved a great deal. However, the game is not for casual players and if you want to play – you have to put more time on it to learn advanced mechanics and tactics.
2 - Halo 3
The Halo series is one of the best first-person shooters franchise on the console. Amongst all of them, Halo 3 is the best. The game was the final Halo that was developed by the original Bungie – the mastermind behind the series.
Weapons are balanced, maps are well designed, all combined into one of the greatest multiplayer experience that you could find on a console. Also, the campaign of Halo 3 is not too shabby, either.
1 - Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the most played FPS game ever to this day. Released in 2012, Valve has been raking in the cash ever since, with all the hats and gun cosmetics. The game contains all the classic maps from the original Counter-Strike such as Dust 2 and Nuke, providing something for older fans of the series to come back.
The other thing that needs to be mentioned is CS: GO’s ever-growing eSport scene, with one of the biggest prize pool ever seen on a first-person shooter. Overall, CS: GO is a masterpiece.
