Warner Bros. Pictures has officially announced the title of the follow-up to its hit 2025 film A Minecraft Movie.
The sequel will be called A Minecraft Sequel. It is scheduled to hit theaters on July 23, 2027.
The announcement came as part of Warner Bros. broader slate reveal for 2027 and beyond. Attendees at the event learned that director Jared Hess is returning to helm the project. He will once again team up with screenwriter Chris Galletta on the script.
Building on Success
Fans and industry watchers had speculated about the sequel ever since the original movie became a massive box office success last year. A Minecraft Movie grossed nearly one billion dollars worldwide and introduced the blocky world of Minecraft to a new generation of moviegoers on the big screen.
The straightforward title choice has already sparked plenty of online discussion. Many noted its playful nod to the source material while keeping things simple and recognizable for families and gamers alike.
No plot details or cast announcements were shared at CinemaCon. However, early development reports suggest the creative team aims to expand the adventure with fresh story elements drawn from the game’s endless possibilities.
Warner Bros. executives described the sequel as a key part of the studio’s ongoing commitment to blockbuster family entertainment. With the first film proving that video game adaptations can thrive in theaters, expectations are high for this next chapter.
Minecraft fans can mark their calendars for summer 2027. Until then, the official title confirmation builds excitement for what promises to be another pixel-perfect journey into the Overworld and beyond.
