Mycelium is a particularly rare variant of dirt that is found naturally only in mushroom fields biomes. It has a particle effect that resembles tiny spores being released constantly from the surface. Besides its appearance, Mycelium also has a couple of unique applications that no other blocks in the game have.
In this article, Gurugamer will go through some of the best uses of Mycelium and how you can find this block.
1. Prevent mob from spawning
Hostile mobs do not spawn over mycelium and inside mushroom biomes. This is the main reason why the biome is considered one of the safest in the game. By spawn proofing their base with Mycelium, players can build pretty much everything without having to look out for the hostile mobs.
2. Grow giant mushrooms
Huge mushrooms are tree-like structures that consist of mushroom blocks. They can be found naturally in swamp, dark forest, and mushroom fields biomes. Huge mushrooms can grow on mycelium, just as they can grow on dirt, grass, or podzol.
Without Mycelium, players a light level of 12 or lower to grow Giant mushrooms. This restriction is removed on Mycelium, allowing these mushrooms to grow regardless of light level.
There are two variants of huge mushrooms, brown and red. They look fairly unique and can be great base decorations
3. Create a custom Mushroom Biome
Unlike other blocks, Mycelium has a special feature: its spore spreads to other blocks to create more Mycelium. When placed beside a dirt of grass block, it can spread rapidly to create a Mycelium patch. Players can grow all types of fungi here, from mushrooms, fungus to giant mushrooms.
Mycelium cannot be tilled with a hoe to make farmland. However, it can first be converted to dirt paths using a shovel, then tilled with a hoe to create farmland. This is pretty useful if you want to remove this block.
4. Planting Fungus
A fungus is a mushroom-like block that generates in the Nether. There are two types of fungi: crimson and warped. They cannot be grown on normal blocks - only mycelium can prevent them from breaking off and falling in high light levels.
Warped fungus can be used to breed striders and lead them around if crafted as a warped fungus on a stick. Crimson fungus can be used to breed hoglins and keep them from despawning, but it does not stop the hoglin from attacking the player.
5. How to find Mushroom Field biome
Mushroom field, commonly referred to as a mushroom island, is a biome that always generates as an island surrounded by deep oceans. The islands have the occasional tendency to be close to one another, resulting in multiple mushroom fields separated by only a few hundred blocks.
The one thing that makes the mushroom fields biome rare is the fact it only generates in the middle of the ocean. Hence when searching for the mushroom fields biome, you must always use a boat and explore the vast ocean first.
