Grand Theft Auto V has been released and online since 2013, making it one of the most successful games Rockstar has ever produced.
A huge success from Rockstar
Following today's trends, game developers are leaving a longer period of time between each title release and producing huge triple-A games. It's been 8 long years since we've heard any announcement of a new Grand Theft Auto title. In the 2000s Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto titles that were online a couple of years apart. Nowadays the release dates are coming close to having a decade between each GTA title.
With that being said, Rockstar has released other amazing open-world games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, so they're not idly waiting for GTA V to stop making money. In fact, it's probably in their own interest to keep going and make a sixth and final, Grand Theft Auto title that will conclude Rockstar's open-world series. It has been talked about for years now, but sometimes the magic of a game can't be achieved in an all-too-brief period of time, so for now we can play GTA V and eagerly await the announcement.
GTA V is the second most successful video game ever created, topped only by Mojang’s minecraft. Rockstar have sold over 145 millions copies of the game across many platforms.
The future of GTA V
So the question remains, does GTA V hold up after almost 10 years, and is it worth playing now, even if you've never played it before? The short answer is yes. The longer answer is hell yes. Rockstar is pouring tonnes of resources into the online aspect of the game and is churning out great updates such as the latest Los Santos Tuners update.
Several new cars have been added to the game that closely resemble fan favorites like the new Toyota Supra (Jester RR) and the Honda S2000 (Dinka RT3000). They're a big hit for anyone who likes JDM cars and Fast and Furious movies. Rockstar has even added nostalgic liveries to match the movie cars.
Players can now attend their Los Santos Tuners car meets in several locations around the city and try their chances at winning the prize car every week. All of these new updates are in the online game so will require an internet connection to access. If you have the base game, the online version comes included for free.
But what about the loading times? The GTA V Online loading times have always been a tricky one. Gamers want the fastest loading times with maximum FPS but unfortunately due to GTA V's game size and detailed assets, the game takes an age to load. GTA V Online is renowned for long loading times and has been one of the reasons some players can't be bothered to load the game. But don't worry, there are a few things you can do to speed up the loading screens so you can stop reading the same 'helpful' tips over and over.
Tips to speed up the loading time in GTA V
The first thing to do is ensure you're on a reasonably fast broadband connection. Sure, the game is huge and takes a long time to load regardless, but if your internet speed is below 10-15Mbps download, it's going to take even longer to make the connection to the game's online servers. 15Mbps may sound like a lot if you're running a standard copper connection but switching to fibre broadband can guarantee 50-60Mbps download speed (depending on provider). As well as a faster loading time you'll also have a reduced ping meaning that your connection to the game servers is super fast and responsive.
The next thing you can do to speed up the loading process is moving the GTA V files onto a solid-state drive. This is a big ask as it's over 100Gb and most people only use SSDs as boot drives but SSDs are up to 10 times faster than a standard hard disk. So, if you really want to get into the game faster, get GTA V on an SSD!
What's next in the game?
Rockstar frequently faces criticism for not announcing they're not working on a new Grand Theft Auto title and are instead updating the existing GTA V online platform. Fans seem to have a love-hate relationship with GTA V Online. Whilst the game updates are enough to keep players interested, GTA fans want a new map and environment.
The average player will be perfectly happy shredding around the streets of Los Santos in their modified go-karts and tanks but you can't help but wonder what the next game will hold and if we should be looking forward to an announcement in the near future.
Rockstar does a fairly good job of moderating the online game but they can't stop everyone using the 'hacker' mod menu. You will eventually encounter someone trolling and or griefing in the game and occasionally it's quite funny to see but does get annoying, quickly. Worry not for you can simply find another game session in no time at all.
Final words
In conclusion, GTA V is an amazing game with an enormous amount of content and playability but we can't help but wait eagerly for the sixth in the series. In the meantime, we definitely recommend that you play some GTA V and get involved in the online community. Just make sure you've got a good internet connection and SSD!
