As per a report from the analytics company ‘App Annie’, Indian mobile users spent collectively about half a billion dollars on apps and games across both Google Play Store and Apple App Store in 2020.
In the meantime, global users shelled out a whopping $143 billion on the app stores, marking a 20% increase in a year-on-year comparison with 2019. The report also added that around 218 billion new apps were downloaded worldwide last year, not only from Google Play and App Store but also third-party app stores in China.
In terms of daily time spent per user, App Annie saw a 20% jump at 4.2 hours among global user communities. Spends for mobile ads and mobile tech investments grew up by 26% and 27%, respectively clocking in at $240 billion and $73 billion).
India and China topped the list of app downloads and hours spent per user but China and the US were the leading markets when it comes to consumer spends.

The sought-after dating app Tinder emerged as the mobile app that made Indian users spend the largest amount of money last year, followed by the video streaming service Disney+ Hotstar. Other apps in the top 10 list include Google One, Truecaller, Netflix, Udemy, Who – Call & Chat, ParaU, LivU, and Chamet.
Mobile games also drew a lot of attention all over the country and Indian users were reported to pour most of their money into several popular titles, such as Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Coin Master, Teen Patti, Clash of Clans, Call of Duty: Mobile, Teen Patti Gold, Lords Mobile, Candy Crush Saga, and Gardenscapes - New Acres.
