The Alien franchise is famous for its dark atmosphere and fear-inducing twists and turns where death could lurk around any corner. And now, the upcoming game Alien: Blackout looks to bring this haunting experience to mobile devices with its intense survival gameplay. To avoid dying in some of the most horrible ways imaginable, you will have to stay on your toes at all time.

Alien: Blackout Trailer

The story of Blackout takes place between the original Alien movie and 1986’s Aliens, with the protagonist being Amanda Ripley, the daughter of the heroine Ellen Ripley in the movies. While investigating the secrets behind the disappearance of the Nostromo (The starship attacked by the Xenomorph in the 1979 movie), Amanda and her crew find themselves stranded on the Weyland-Yutani space station with a deadly Xenomorph on the loose, seeking to kill every last one. Now, it is up to you as the player to help them find a way to survive.

To do this, you must rely on the station’s control system, which includes a holographic map, surveillance cameras, and motion tracker, to plan your steps. However, the system has been damaged, its power supply limited, so the information it delivers will not be complete, and there lie the challenges. You shall have to make several decisions of various importance. Sometimes you simply have to choose where to go next, other times you must pick which crew member to sacrifice to ensure the rest survive. Of course, each course of action will lead to a different outcome.

However, the announcement of Alien: Black Out was not well-received. As was the case with Blizzard’s Diablo Immortal last year, fans seem displeased by the fact that their favorite franchise is brought to mobile. Many have taken to social media to voice their complaints since they were expecting a sequel to the highly acclaimed PC game Alien: Isolation, which also starred Amanda Ripley as the main character. Still, the developer stands firm with their decisions, saying that Blackout is a standalone game with new adventures unrelated to Isolation, and that it has more plans for Amanda in the future.

Alien: Blackout is scheduled to launch later this year on Google Play, with pre-registration available now.
