Kids vs Zombies from developer Donut Lab Studio is an upcoming kid-friendly multiplayer shooter that’s all about fending off armies of shambling undead while at the same time competing directly against another player. The game takes place in an alternate world in which all grownups have been transformed into zombies, prompting the children to take up arms to defend themselves.
That said, there is a family-friendly twist to all of this: Zombies in this game are actually made of donuts, which they’ll drop when defeated. These donuts act as the game’s currency, and you can use them to unlock new abilities, cosmetic items, and others.
Each match of Kids vs Zombies plays out across a pretty big and detailed map, and these maps also have different themes to them as well. Your objective, of course, is to take down as many zombies as you can, then collect their donuts and deliver them to a drop off point. You’ll have access to a pretty extensive arsenal of quirky weapons as well, including a bubble gun, a candy machine, and even a gun that shoots popcorn.
The game offers a pretty interesting take on PVP as well: You will not be outright killing one another, but will rather be competing to see who can bring more donuts back. Naturally, that means you will have to do everything within your power to distract or slow your opponent down. For example, you can place dirt traps to hinder their progress or try to mess with their escape route.
The developer also promises to add regular updates post-launch, which will bring new content such as extra cosmetics to the game. The visual style, meanwhile, is going to be a bit of an acquired taste. While the oddball character models might appear rather ugly at first glance, there is a level of cuteness to them. Clearly, a lot of effort has been invested in creating this world and its inhabitants.
Kids vs Zombies is scheduled to soft-launch this November the full launch expected to take place in February 2020. It will be available for both Android and iOS.
