The Elytra is one of the most useful items in Minecraft. It allows players to fly and get past long distances quickly, ignoring all potential obstructions. Players can only obtain it at the very end of the game, after beating the Ender Dragon and getting to the End Cities.
In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase some of the best tips and tricks to use Elytra more effectively.
1. Enchant the Elytra with Mending
As the Elytra is a rare item that can only be found in certain places in the End Cities, getting more of it can be an issue. Therefore, players need to enchant the item with Mending for easy repair.
Flying costs a lot of durability points and killing some of the mobs will restore it back. Alternatively, players can also repair the item with phantom membranes dropped from phantoms. These mobs appear if players haven't slept for three in-game days.
Durability decreases by one point each second when gliding. A pair of elytra has 432 durability, allowing 7 minutes and 12 seconds of gliding time without enchantments. This means having Unbreaking III on the Elytra would allow players to glide for much longer than usual.
2. Powered flight with fireworks
The Elytra will only let players glide down, but not fly on its own. Players can use firework rockets can be used for propulsion during flight by placing them in either hand and use.
This quickly maximizes the player's speed for a time similar to the rocket's flight duration. Rockets are expensive and players might need a gunpowder and paper farm to keep up. Just don't craft rockets with firework stars, as they would explode and deal damage at the end of the duration.
3. Use sharp turns to decrease speed
It might get pretty hard to safely land if the player is gliding too fast. Crashlands can deal a lot of damage via collision and even more if players fall down afterward.
To deal with this issue, it is best to use a sharp, hairpin turn to lose speed. The quicker the turn the greater the reduction. Just aims to glide just above the target, then immediately reverse directions when you are above it. By perfecting this technique, players would be able to make high-speed and precise landings on small targets like rooftops.
4. Immediate flight with fireworks
Those who are new to Elytra might need a platform to launch themselves in the air. However, if players have the necessary number of firework rockets, they can fly at any place by double tapping the space bar and using a rocket to enter flying mode instantly.
Afterward, simply right-click towards the direction you want to go.
5. Don't forget to swap chestplate
The Elytra takes up the chestplate slot without mods, and players will lose a lot of defense while using it. Therefore, it is best to quickly swap the item out when not used.
It is the most important part of the armor and gives the most amount of protection.
