A Battlefield 6 player received a full Steam refund for the Phantom Edition despite logging 470 hours. Reddit user ExplorEverythingOnce said Valve returned the $109.24 paid on launch day after multiple popular modes were removed.
Why the refund was granted
The player contacted Steam Support following patch 1.4.1.5 in early August 2026. They explained that Rush, King of the Hill, and Squad Deathmatch had been taken out of matchmaking and Quickplay without clear notice nearly a year after the game’s October 2025 launch. Rush was their most-played mode. The support agent reviewed the official site listings and a community update, agreed the changes were not right, and issued the full refund. The player noted this was only their second refund request in 22 years as a Steam customer.
Mode removals and game status
The August 4 update focused on reliability and fixes, but several modes vanished from standard playlists while remaining limited in Portal. Developers later said the playlist changes aimed to improve matchmaking and queue times.
Battlefield 6 launched strongly, selling over seven million copies in three days with Steam peaks above 650,000 players. Player numbers later dropped to the 30,000–45,000 concurrent range, typical for live-service titles. Season 4’s naval warfare and new maps pushed peaks back over 80,000 in July 2026. Steam reviews sit around 65 percent positive. The refund remains an individual exception rather than a policy change.
