Battlefield 6 is stirring things up with a PS5-only skin, and not everyone’s thrilled about it. Platform-exclusive stuff isn’t new—Call of Duty used to drop map packs early for whichever console shelled out for a marketing deal. Xbox had that gig for a while, then PlayStation took over. Eventually, Call of Duty shifted to exclusive skins instead of map packs, but now Xbox has ditched platform-exclusive content for the series entirely. PlayStation, though, seems to be capitalizing on this move.

When you fire up the Battlefield 6 beta on PS5, you’ll find out about a special skin you get just for playing the beta on that console. No extra cash or tough challenges needed—just play, and the skin’s yours when the game drops. These kinds of exclusives usually last about a year, so Xbox and PC players might see it around October 2026, but that’s just a guess. The skin looks solid and will probably be a hit with PS5 players when the game launches.

Other Ways to Earn Skins

For those not on PS5, don’t worry—there are other ways to score skins in the Battlefield 6 beta. If you’re on Twitch, you can watch Battlefield 6 streams for four hours and snag a new in-game reward every hour through Twitch drops. You don’t even need to be active in the chat—just let the stream run quietly in the background. I left a stream on with the volume nearly muted this morning, came back later, and had all the Twitch drops waiting for me. Plus, both beta weekends for Battlefield 6 will have challenges that let you earn skins and other in-game goodies.

Skin Controversy and Game Direction

Skins in shooters have been a hot topic lately. Call of Duty’s gone full Fortnite with its approach, which has annoyed players who want something more realistic. I talked to two DICE producers about Battlefield 6’s skins, and they said they’re keeping things “grounded” and “authentic” to match the game’s gritty feel. That could change down the line, but for now, that’s the plan.

Battlefield 6 hits Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on October 10th.
