Effie is a new 3D platformer PlayStation-exclusive game from a Spanish indie game studio. You can watch the official trailer of the game below:
The story of Effie
The story of Effie was designed to be a fairy tale. You will take control of Galand – a young man cursed to become much older by an evil witch. He’ll be on his way through the land to find the witch, reverse the spell and regain his precious youth.
However, he doesn’t have to face everything alone. He’ll have a very useful companion – a magical shield named Runestone which has a lot of abilities. It attacks, it helps him with puzzle solving, and most importantly, it flies. Galand will fly on his shield traveling through the Red Plains of Oblena and dungeons to find the wicked witch.
Effie’s gameplay
The game was inspired by the “fond memories” of the classic 3D platformer games on PlayStation that’s no longer on the developing trend. The developers have set their dedicated goals: to create a game of this kind with “good graphics” and “tell a new story.”
And there it goes. The game’s setting is a kind of fairy tales, in which you can find a lot of ancient temples, windmills city or a city with houses build like a bunch of barrels. It’s definitely not something you could easily see in the real modern world. And of course, there’s an evil witch, too!
Although Effie is a platformer game, it’s not 100% linear. In fact, the game is a big open world where you can visit everywhere you want. But if you have chosen to enter certain places, then the gameplay will be linear. Inverge studios have mentioned that it’s an adventure game, so they want to let you travel everywhere freely, although it’s much harder for the developing crew.
The game does not only consist of just wandering and fighting monsters but also solving challenging puzzles. As you explore the world further, you’ll be able to upgrade your shield as well as gain new skills. The new skills allow you to perform more attacks and movements such as heavy combos, charged attacks, and the most exciting thing – double jump. Surfing on a shield is already very fun experience, but jumping and double jumping is even more entertaining.
The game is exactly what a platformer fan will enjoy every second!
Effie will be launched PS4-exclusively on 4th June, so be sure to check it out!
