Earlier today, Riot Games has introduced a brand new League of Legends mode called Teamfight Tactics. The developer has not shied from anything, directly stated that they've taken the inspiration from Dota Auto Chess to make this game mode.
About the gameplay of Teamfight Tactics
According to Riot Games, Teamfight Tactics (TFT for short) is "a round-based strategy game that pits you against seven opponents in a free-for-all race to build a powerful team that fights on your behalf".
The gameplay of Teamfight Tactics was basically very simple. The game will have three phases, including the shopping phase, the battle phase, and the damage calculation phase.
At the start of each round, you will meet the familiar shopmen again, buy League of Legends' characters and equipment for them. Your army will be stronger with different combinations. Specifically, if those champions have the same origins or belong to the same classes, you can unlock some strength bonuses.
From there, you can place your champion strategically on the hexagonal board. It depends on your knowledge about the game, so be sure to learn the champions' strengths and weakness.
And then you will throw your champions into action on your opponents' board (or they will invade yours). Since that time, you can't do anything else but watching your troops moving, attacking and casting abilities automatically. So you have to plan your team comp very carefully to reach its maximum potential, and get you to the final win!
Just like League of Legends itself, but less frustrating with your teammates!
After the fight is over, players will receive the damage accordingly to the amounts of enemies units still standing on the board. The team that sustains through all those damages at the end will be the winner.
You also earned the gold with your trophies through each round, and will be able to spend it at the start of next round! Upgrade your army, and do as much as damage as you can to your opponents.
It's all that easy!
Riot Games' effort to replicate the success of Dota Auto Chess
Dota Auto Chess has proven its own success by bringing back one million players for Valve's famous title - Dota 2. The game was so successful that the Valve even independently develops it, and still managed to attract a lot of people playing regularly.
With such success, it's understandable that Riot Games wants to recreate the same magic to its player base of over 100 million individuals sooner or later. And now, we have Teamfight Tactics! TFT product manager, Richard Henkel further explained their aims with this game mode, trying to bring regular new content including events and game modes.
Teamfight Tactics will hit live servers with the patch 9.13 - which will comes out two weeks later. However, players with accounts on the PBE server can try this mode right this week.
The Rank feature will come later at patch 9.14.
