Mass Effect fans are still trading theories about BioWare's next game. Three ideas keep coming back: an Unreal Engine 5 build, a team of trilogy veterans, and a jump of about 600 years. Only part of that is confirmed. The rest comes from teasers, job posts, and replies from producer Michael Gamble.
A veteran team is the firmest part

BioWare has said the next Mass Effect is in development. A January 2025 studio update named a core team led by trilogy veterans, including Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, and Parrish Ley. On N7 Day 2025, Gamble said EA and BioWare remain committed after years of thin updates. Fans also track cinematic director Parrish Ley, technical designer Brenon Holmes, and original art director Derek Watts. That lineup is the clearest sign the project is in the hands of people who shipped the original trilogy.
UE5 is still a reading of job posts
The engine talk comes from hiring, not a trailer. BioWare listings have asked for Unreal Engine 4 or 5 experience, and Holmes has pointed to Unreal through those posts. The trilogy and Legendary Edition used Unreal Engine 3, so fans expect the studio to stay in that family. A listing that accepts UE4 or UE5 is not a lock on UE5. Most threads still assume the newer version.
The 600-year jump is the loudest theory

The date is less settled. Mass Effect: Andromeda is set about 600 years after Mass Effect 3. The next-game teaser showed dead Reapers and an older Liara T'Soni. Asari live close to 1,000 years, so Liara can appear centuries later. Fans also cite a "godspeed" line that matches Ryder's launch in Andromeda. Gamble has called that match intentional, which fed the idea that the new game links the Milky Way aftermath to Andromeda. A 2025 tease of a Krogan civil war, which Gamble placed after Mass Effect 3, fits a future setting, but it does not date the war. Other fans argue a 600-year skip would erase Shepard's choices, and prefer a short jump so imports still matter.
The veteran team is fact. UE5 and a 600-year jump are still fan rumor.
