Minecraft just dropped some free skins tied to James Gunn’s new Superman movie. Minecraft is the top-selling game ever, a total juggernaut. It’s not a heavy game, so it runs on pretty much anything, which makes it super easy for everyone to play. That, plus its sandbox style, is why it’s such a hit. You can build whatever you can dream up. People have made some seriously cool stuff in Minecraft, and it’s also become a go-to for crossovers, kind of like Fortnite.
Over the years, all sorts of famous characters and worlds have shown up in Minecraft, letting fans dive into their favorite stories. The latest is Superman. A new free skin pack for DC’s Superman is out now, so you can play as David Corenswet’s Superman, Lois Lane, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, or Mr. Terrific. Sadly, no Lex Luthor skin, which bums out some DC fans hoping for a bald Minecraft look. Click here to grab the skin pack and check out the description below.
A full-on Superman DLC is also in the works for Minecraft, but there’s no word yet on when it’ll drop or what it’ll include. It’s a cool way to hype up James Gunn’s new movie, which hits theaters this weekend and kicks off a fresh DC universe. Early reviews are raving about Superman, calling it a great sign for the franchise’s future. It’s one of the best-reviewed Superman films ever, the highest since Superman II back in 1980. Superman hasn’t been this big in pop culture for a while, but DC and Warner Bros. are clearly working hard to bring him back as a major icon.
ComicBook’s Spencer Perry gave Superman a 4 out of 5, saying it got him excited for DC’s future: “This movie shows why superhero films took over Hollywood for so long, taking what fans love about a character and world and making it feel alive. James Gunn could’ve easily run out of steam after all these years since Guardians of the Galaxy, but Superman proves he’s still one of the best at crafting superhero stories for big audiences. If this is what the DCU is starting with, it’s in solid hands.”
