Zankou is an S-rank Incantation Main DPS in Neverness to Everness (NTE). She arrives in version 1.3 on the limited banner starting around August 19, 2026 (UTC+8), lasting roughly three weeks. She uses a Gas-compatible Arc and specializes in state-switching combat, direct Incantation damage, Heartwrench DoT application and spreading, Break pressure, and team DoT amplification (including making Scorch stack higher). She also offers open-world stealth via invisibility.

She functions as a strong on-field carry who can also lean into DoT support or Break roles depending on team setup.

Kit and Playstyle Overview

Zankou has two combat states: Reality and Illusion.

  • Reality: Basic Attack Wildfire is a standard 5-hit combo. The final hit can pull enemies. She gains the Hunt buff for increased damage (Universal DMG%). Charged attack is Flickering Shadow. Dodge counter is Void Step.
  • Redirect Skill - Sanguine Dash: Switches to Illusion. When timed after the 4th/5th hit of Wildfire, Flickering Shadow, or a dodge counter (skill icon flashes), it applies Heartwrench DoT and triggers Disarray for heavy AoE Break damage.
  • Illusion: Basic Attack Nightmare Waltz applies Heartwrench DoT on hit and spreads existing DoTs to nearby targets. Charged attack is Moonfall (also applies Heartwrench). All attacks count as follow-up attacks. She gains the Delusion buff, which raises CRIT DMG of DoT effects on the target.
  • Redirect Skill - Soulcross: Switches back to Reality. When used shortly before Illusion ends naturally (skill icon flashes), it triggers Oblivion for massive AoE damage and maintains the Delusion buff into Reality.
  • Ultimate: Inferno Flamenco is the standard Ultimate. After triggering Oblivion, it upgrades to Bloodfeast Reverie, which applies multiple Heartwrench stacks and allows a free empowered Inferno Flamenco cast.
  • Passive: Makes Scorch stackable (up to three stacks).

Core loop: Build resources and apply pressure in Reality with Wildfire and Hunt, switch into Illusion with enhanced Sanguine Dash for DoT application/spreading and follow-up damage under Delusion, then return with Soulcross for Oblivion payoff and the upgraded Ultimate. Timing the enhanced skill switches is important for maximum Break and DoT value.

Best Build

Maxresdefault 5

Best Arc (Weapon)

Signature: Ravenous Blade.
It provides high base ATK plus strong CRIT Rate (around 24% at level 80 plus additional CRIT Rate from the passive). Dealing Incantation damage stacks CRIT DMG (commonly up to 7 stacks for a large total, refreshed on trigger). Aim for roughly 70-75%+ CRIT Rate in a full signature build.

Strong alternatives / F2P options:

  • Contemplative Cat (solid CRIT DMG and base ATK stats stick)
  • Watch Your Heads (especially with high Mixing)
  • Other high-ATK Gas Arcs with CRIT Rate or Incantation DMG%

Best Cartridge / Modules

Crimson: Twin Butterflies (4-piece) is the clear recommendation for Incantation Attack-scaling DPS.

  • 2-piece: +10% Incantation DMG
  • 4-piece: Whenever a nearby enemy takes Incantation DMG from the team, the wearer gains +6% ATK (stacks up to 6 times / 36% ATK, 10s duration each). Effect works even while off-field.

This set boosts personal damage and team Incantation pressure well. Note that it does not directly buff Scorch, so some players shift Cycle Intensity toward Chaos teammates when focusing pure Scorch ownership.

Main Stats Priority

Incantation DMG% (safest and often preferred) > CRIT DMG or CRIT Rate (depending on current ratio) > ATK%.

Substats Priority

CRIT Rate > CRIT DMG > Universal/General DMG% > ATK% > flat ATK.

Target a balanced CRIT Rate : CRIT DMG ratio near 1:2 after all sources (including signature). Modules with three useful offensive substats are already strong endgame pieces.

Skill Priority

Skill > Ultimate > Basic Attack > QTE.

Awakening Priority

A1, A4, and A6 stand out. A1 is frequently cited as the largest early damage spike. Specific higher layers can favor Break-focused teams (e.g., with strong Daffodill) or pure damage. Base form is already very capable; further investment is optional but rewarding for ceiling.

Best Teams

Maxresdefault 4

Zankou thrives in Scorch (Incantation + Chaos) or Hexed (Incantation + Anima) setups. She applies and spreads DoTs while contributing personal damage and Break.

Strong Scorch / DoT-focused examples

  • Zankou (Main DPS) + Lacrimosa (Chaos/DoT Sub-DPS) + Sakiri (Incantation/DoT support) + Iroi or Haniel (buffs / flexibility)
  • Variants with Daffodill for Chaos application and Break support
  • Future synergy with Linko (second half of 1.3) for enhanced Hexed windows

Break / Discord lean

  • Zankou + Daffodill + Sakiri + Fadia or Adler (Break efficiency, shields, and amplification)

More accessible / lower-investment

  • Zankou + Daffodill + Mint + Adler

She pairs especially well with characters who enable or amplify DoTs and Scorch (Lacrimosa, Sakiri, Daffodill). Linko is expected to elevate Hexed teams further once available. She can also function as a DoT CRIT DMG engine in hyper-carry Lacrimosa setups.

Pull Value: Should You Pull Zankou?

High value if:

  • You need a limited S-rank Incantation Main DPS.
  • You are building or strengthening Scorch or Hexed teams.
  • You already own (or plan to own) strong partners such as Lacrimosa, Sakiri, Daffodill, or upcoming Linko.
  • You enjoy mobile, state-switching, close-to-mid range combat with DoT spreading and high personal damage.
  • You like her design, Scarlet Letter story ties, or the fantasy of playing the former story boss.

She offers strong personal output, team DoT enhancement (including higher Scorch stacking potential), Break utility, and flexible roles. Early testing and CN feedback position her as a top-tier or near top-tier DPS option, especially once Linko arrives. Base form performs well; A1 is a natural stopping point for many players seeking noticeable gains without full investment.

Consider skipping or waiting if:

  • Your account already has strong Incantation coverage and you prioritize other upcoming units.
  • You are strictly F2P with limited resources and need to evaluate full live multipliers after global release.
  • You prefer simpler playstyles or different elements.

NTE limited banners guarantee the featured character at hard pity (around 90 pulls in the current system, with modification mechanics earlier). Saving a full pity is the safest approach for guarantee. Signature Arc is a meaningful upgrade but not mandatory for her to perform.

Materials note (for pre-farming)
Key ascension pieces include Nest Guard Fragment (significant quantity). Skill materials feature items such as Eternal Memory, Black Hat, First Expectations, Known Weariness, and various Numerals. Full leveling + skills + signature is resource-intensive; check in-game or community trackers for exact counts as they can vary slightly by source.

Zankou is a high-skill, high-reward Incantation carry with excellent team synergy potential. She rewards good timing on state switches and DoT management while delivering strong damage and utility. If your roster needs an Incantation DPS or you want to invest in Scorch/Hexed cores, she is one of the stronger pulls in the 1.3 window.

Builds and exact numbers can shift slightly with full live data and balance updates after global release. Adjust based on your specific modules, team, and testing.
