Pearl Abyss has outlined future plans for Crimson Desert, its single-player open-world action RPG that launched on March 19, 2026. In remarks linked to the second-quarter 2026 financial results, the studio said it is researching multiplayer options and treating the game as a long-term flagship IP that could include sequels.
The title has sold more than 6 million copies. Q2 sales reached about 2.11 million units, mostly digital, and the game remained a major revenue driver even after the initial launch peak.

Multiplayer Research Underway
Pearl Abyss noted significant potential for multiplayer, citing the game’s dynamic combat and expansive open world. “Integrating multiplayer functionality is far more complex than simply adding a new game mode,” the studio explained. It requires evaluation of server architecture, balance, cross-platform stability, and live-service models.
Extensive research is underway from both technical and gameplay perspectives. “Our overarching goal is to extend how users engage with the Crimson Desert IP over the long term,” the company said. No release plan has been confirmed. Earlier tests showed hardware limits would force graphical compromises.
Franchise and Sequel Plans

The studio described Crimson Desert as “not a one-off title, but a core flagship IP... designed for long-term growth and expansion.” It remains open to add-on content, platform expansion, and sequel titles. Immediate focus stays on DLCs and other pipelines. Future decisions will depend on player feedback, market conditions, and performance.
Upcoming DLC and Platforms

Paid DLC is in development for release before the end of 2026. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is playable and targeted for the first half of 2027. No mobile version is planned.
Originally conceived with MMO roots, Crimson Desert shifted to single-player during development. Pearl Abyss is weighing technical realities while supporting the game through free updates and the first expansion. Further details will follow as plans develop.
