Kazuhisa Wada, producer on Persona 4 Revival and a key figure at Atlus’s P-Studio, has voiced strong personal support for remaking the series’ first two entries.
In a recent interview with GamerBraves discussing the upcoming remake of Persona 4, Wada was asked about the possibility of updating Persona 1 and Persona 2 (or whether focus would stay on Persona 6). He replied: “At this point, I can’t say for sure, but personally, I think it’s something we should definitely do. I think we have to do it.”
No concrete plans or development timeline were confirmed. The comments reflect Wada’s view that the early games deserve the same modern treatment already given to later titles.
Persona 4 Revival and Recent Series Updates
Persona 3 Reload launched successfully in 2024. Persona 4 Revival, a full remake of Persona 4 Golden, is scheduled for February 18, 2027, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It features rebuilt 3D environments for Inaba, more cinematic in-game cutscenes (including work with MAPPA), refined combat systems such as Send Flying and Prime Time, quality-of-life improvements, and preservation of the original story and character personalities.
Once Persona 4 Revival arrives, modern versions will exist for Persona 3, 4, and 5. That leaves the foundational games looking increasingly dated by comparison.
The Early Persona Games
Revelations: Persona (known as Megami Ibunroku Persona in Japan) launched in 1996. Persona 2: Innocent Sin followed in 1999, with its direct sequel Persona 2: Eternal Punishment arriving in 2000. These titles use systems closer to traditional RPGs and lack the calendar and Social Link mechanics that became series hallmarks starting with Persona 3. Their most recent significant releases were PSP ports more than a decade ago.
Previous Interest from the Producer
Wada has expressed interest before. In 2024 he said remakes of the early games were “not on my schedule right now” but added that he “would like to do it someday.”
The producer’s latest remarks suggest the idea remains a priority for him even as the studio balances Persona 4 Revival, ongoing work toward Persona 6, and other projects. Whether and when those remakes materialize is still unknown, but the head of Persona 4 Revival is clearly pushing for them.
