Electronic Arts has brought the classic motorcycle combat racer Road Rash back to digital storefronts. The 30th Anniversary Edition of the 1996 PC version launched on November 5, 2026, and is now available on Steam, GOG, and the EA App.

This marks the first digital release of that specific PC version. It is not a full remake or a new entry in the series. Instead, EA restored the original game and added practical updates for modern hardware.

Key Upgrades in the Anniversary Edition

The restored edition includes several quality-of-life improvements:

  • Support for up to 60 frames per second for smoother performance on current PCs
  • The original licensed rock soundtrack, featuring bands such as Soundgarden, Monster Magnet, and Therapy?
  • Restored cinematic scenes taken from original master tapes, with optional higher resolution options
  • Native controller support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers
  • Windowed mode so players are no longer locked to full screen
  • Cloud saves for easier progress tracking across devices

Players can now listen to the soundtrack while racing, a feature that originally appeared in the Sega CD version of the game.

Part of a Larger Classic Games Relaunch

Road Rash is one of 25 classic PC titles EA re-released in this wave. Seven of them received special Anniversary Edition treatment. These include several Wing Commander games and Privateer 2: The Darkening. The remaining 18 titles, such as Theme Hospital and various Ultima games, returned as faithful ports of the originals.

EA recovered source material from a large internal archive containing nearly 20,000 items. The team digitized thousands of hours of footage to restore cinematic sequences across the Anniversary Editions.

Pricing and Availability

Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition is priced at $9.99. A launch discount brings the cost down to $4.99 on Steam and GOG until November 19, 2026. The other Anniversary Editions follow the same pricing structure, while the standard classic titles are available for $4.99 each.

The game remains a pure combat racing experience. Players race motorcycles across open roads, dodge traffic and police, and use punches, kicks, and weapons to knock rivals off their bikes.

Why This Matters for Fans

Road Rash defined the combat racing genre in the 1990s. Many players have long wanted an easy way to experience the 1996 PC version without hunting down aging hardware or unreliable community patches. This release delivers the original game with the practical improvements needed to run cleanly today.

Whether you are revisiting old favorites or discovering the series for the first time, the 30th Anniversary Edition offers a straightforward way to jump back into one of EA’s most memorable classics.
