Rockstar Games is listing a premium Collector's Box on the Rockstar Store: Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection. It costs $399.99 and is marked Coming Soon. The fine print is clear. Grand Theft Auto VI is sold separately. There is no disc and no download code in the box.

That matters more because the regular boxed copy of GTA VI also ships without a disc. When pre-orders opened in June, Rockstar confirmed retail cases contain only a download code. The Standard Edition is $79.99. The Ultimate Edition is $99.99. The $400 box goes further. It is merch, not a playable edition.

What $400 buys

Rockstar describes the set as a premium Collector's Box inspired by Leonida's in-universe TV show, Macca the Gator. The box measures 19 by 13.5 by 12.5 inches, is not eligible for free shipping, and is rated 18 and up.

Rockstar used the same idea for the Red Dead Redemption 2 Collector's Box, which also excluded the game. A GTA VI collector who wants this merch and the game will spend about $480 to $500 before tax and shipping.

Game pre-orders have been live since June 25. The Collector's Box page appeared in late September, less than two months before the November 19 launch. Anyone who already bought Standard or Ultimate now faces a second purchase, not an upgrade that includes the game.

Why the missing disc matters

A disc can be sold, lent, displayed, or loaded without a storefront. Rockstar's launch plan removes that twice. The retail game box has no disc. The $400 merch box has no game at all. Some independent retailers already refused to stock the disc-free retail case.

The Goodtime State box will still sell. Oakley glasses, a New Era cap, and a large crate with a Leonida map will look good on a shelf. Rockstar is not selling a $400 edition of GTA VI. It is selling $400 of merchandise inspired by GTA VI. If you want the statue, buy the box. If you want to play on November 19, budget for the game separately.
