Valve has launched a beta for Steam Achievement Sets, a new feature designed to improve how players organize, track, and complete achievements. Available now in the Steam Client beta, the system addresses problems created by long-lived games that continue receiving DLC, expansions, and seasonal updates. New achievements often make previously completed games appear incomplete and can be hard for players to discover.

How Achievement Sets Work

Developers can group related achievements into collections that match their game's structure. Examples include separating single-player and multiplayer achievements or creating sets for different character classes. Players still unlock achievements through normal gameplay, but the achievement list is now broken into these developer-created sets, each with its own progress bar. Completing every achievement in a set awards a "set complete" trophy on the player's profile. If new achievements are later added to a completed set, the original completion status is preserved.

There are two main types of sets:

  • Base Game sets contain achievements available to all players and display in blue.
  • DLC sets group achievements that require purchased content. These appear in purple and do not count toward overall game progress until the player owns the DLC.

Developers can also archive individual achievements or entire sets, which supports seasonal or limited-time content such as holiday events.

The achievements page has been refreshed to show overall progress, progress within each set, and individual achievement details. Players can compare progress with up to three friends, including those who have played via Family Sharing. Store and Library pages now indicate when a game supports Achievement Sets. The Perfect Games tab has been renamed to Completed, and the Completionist Showcase expands to include games with completed sets.

Supported Games and Availability

A growing list of titles already supports the feature, including Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, PowerWash Simulator, Against the Storm, Crusader Kings III, Forza Horizon 5, and others. The beta is open to both players and developers. To try it, opt into the Steam Client beta through Settings > Interface > Client Beta Participation. Valve plans to continue refining the system based on feedback during the testing period.
