In recent years, we’ve seen the rising popularity of battle royale titles thanks to big names like Fortnite or PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Thanks to them, we’re having no trouble finding a favorite battle royale for our own.

For example, there’s the Tetris 99 battle royale game with really clever twists and the newly-released Super Mario Bros. browser game. This new browser game allegedly turns the classic NES title into an amazing battle royale. Take a look:

In fact, this battle royale version of Super Mario Bros. is somehow ridiculous but surprisingly entertaining to play. Entering the game, 100 players as 100 Marios gather around and battle each other to see who can defeat Bowser first in a race through the first three worlds. Although they cannot touch one another, there are other ways to do so within the same world. For instance, once a player acquires a super mushroom from a block, no one else in the game can have that mushroom.

You really have to try the game to experience the fun. Despite the laggy beginning, the rest of the game runs smoothly and may even create the appetite for a real battle royale title from Nintendo.

Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn’t seem to appreciate such fan-made games as they often shut them down quickly. AM2R: Return of Samus and Pokemon Uranium are the best examples to prove this. The battle royale version of Super Mario Bros. will likely to be shut down in the future. Therefore, while you still can, go and try it out now.

Meanwhile, fans of the mainstream Super Mario should be expecting Super Mario Maker 2 on Nintendo Switch soon, on June 28th. Although it doesn't allow players to create the battle royale mode, fans can still create fan-made levels to share publicly with other players.
