The world of Minecraft is made from blocks of various types. While some blocks are fairly easy to find such as cobblestone and dirt, others are rare and can only be found in certain locations. In this article, Gurugamer.com is going to showcase the rarest blocks in Minecraft 1.18.

1. Dragon Egg

This particular block is a decorative item that only spawns after the player defeats the Ender Dragon for the first time. There can only be one dragon egg in a world - the block would not spawn a second time.

Mining the dragon egg is rather tricky, as it has the tendency to teleport around. Players won't be able to mine and pick it up normally. To get the egg, just place some TNT and blow it up, as the block drops as an item when destroyed by an explosion. Alternatively, you can try pushing it with a piston or fill the 31×15×31 area so that the egg can't teleport.

2. Bone Block

Bone blocks are often found as part of fossil structures, which rarely spawn in the Overworld's desert and swamp biomes. Players can also find these bone blocks in soul sand valley biomes.

Overall, these blocks are mainly used for decorative purposes. However, they can be converted into nine bone meal pieces, which have a lot of uses. Players can place a piece of bone meal in order to grow a tree immediately or even use it on a grass block to create flowers.

3. Sponges

Sponges are special blocks that drain water around them. They are extremely rare and can only be found inside an ocean monument, either inside "sponge rooms" or as a drop from the Elder Guardian. Each of the aforementioned rooms contains an average of 30 wet sponges.

Each sponge can absorb up to 65 blocks worth of water before it needs to be dried out to soak up more water. If players want to build an underwater base, getting a lot of sponges is a must.

4. Ancient Debris

Ancient debris is the main source of Netherite in the Minecraft world. It is a rare blast-resistant block found in the Nether that can be smelted into Netherite Scraps, which is a crucial material to create Netherite weapons. They can be looted from chests in Bastion Remnants or mined at y-level 15-21. You will need a diamond pickaxe to mine this ore successfully.

Its high blast resistance makes it immune to normal explosions. In item form, it floats on lava and cannot be burned by any form of fire. Because of this block's highly durable nature, players usually use TNT to mine it.

5. Emerald

Emeralds are the main currency for trading with Minecraft villagers, where you can purchase rare items and useful materials. Because of their monetary value, Emerald mine is really rare in the overworld.

Emerald can be crafted into blocks.

Players can combine 9 pieces of emerald into a block, which can be used for storage and decoration.
