Cornfox & Bros. originally announced their upcoming RPG title Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm all the way back in 2016, and since the beginning of this year, the team has been frequently providing fans with updates on the progress of the game. Just a few weeks ago they published a video in which they showcased the game in progress at an International Game Developers Association (IGDA) event in Finland, and now Epic Games and Unreal Engine have uploaded a brand new video featuring Cornfox & Bros. and Oceanhorn 2, which is being made using Unreal Engine 4. Of course, the majority of the video is spent to talk about the qualities and advantages of Unreal Engine, but it does provide some good insights on the game as well. The original 2013 Oceanhorn used an engine that Cornfox developed by themselves, which cost them a lot of work and time when they wanted to port it to another platform. Now, with Oceanhorn 2 using Unreal Engine, this porting process is going to be much simpler.
Additionally, the developers also shared that using an engine from a third party allows them to devote more effort to creating in-game content, as they don’t have to waste time to write their own. They said that the engine for game developers is like what the camera is for filmmakers, and in their words, if “you don’t have to start by building the camera, you can just focus on the content.”
If you have not heard about Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm, it is an Adventure/RPG game that draws heavy inspiration from Nintendo’s Legends of Zelda. It will see you exploring a vast open world, meeting many interesting characters, and overcoming dangerous enemies. From what we have seen so far, the game boasts incredible graphics and an engaging story. What is truly amazing is, it was made by a small studio of only 6 people (3 at the time the original Oceanhorn was released). Check out a gameplay demo below:
