The music played by the Jukebox travels roughly 65 blocks in every direction.

How To Get Discs in Minecraft?

There are two ways players can obtain the music discs in Minecraft. One is natural spawning, the second is a loot dropped by Creepers.

Natural Spawning

Music discs have a percentage of spawning in chests in different areas in Minecraft. In the latest Java Edition, players can only acquire three Music Discs in this way. Details are as follows:

Minecraft Spider Dungeon
Dungeons are the best places to find music discs
  1. 13 Music Disc: 21.8% Chance of appearing in Loot Chests in the Dungeon or Woodland Mansion
  2. Cat Music Disc: 21.8% Chance of appearing in Loot Chests in the Dungeon or Woodland Mansion
  3. Pigstep Music Disc: 5.6% Chance of appearing in Generic Chests in Bastion Remnant

Creeper Loot

Another answer to the question of "How to get music discs in Minecraft" lies with our explosive friends. When a Creeper is killed by any skeleton or stray, it drops a random music disc in addition to normal drops (excluding Pigstep).

Creepers

Another cool trick to use is to make a Skeleton ignite TNT blocks a flaming arrow to kill the Creeper. This will attribute the resulting kills to the entity that fired the arrow, in this case, a Skeleton, which gives you a Music Disc. However, the Skeleton must hold a bow enchanted with Flame to ignite a TNT block or shoot it through lava.

Note: How to make a music disc in Minecraft is a question without an answer. You can not craft music discs in the game. However, players can change the content of the music using a mod or a resource pack.

Add Your Own Music to Minecraft Music Disc

The original game won't let you mess with its records, but if you know where to look, there's always a way around it.

Here's how to make custom music discs in Minecraft:

  • #1 Start by creating a folder to store your own records. Go to your Minecraft folder → Sounds Projects → Create a new folder
  • #2 Open any file window, type in "%appdata%", locate the .minecraft folder → version → scroll down to your current version of the game → copy the .jar file to the new folder
  • #3 Change .jar to .zip → scroll down to find the pack.mcmeta and pack.png files → copy the lies files to the new folder
  • #4 Go back to the zip → assets → Minecraft → copy the lang file to the new folder
  • #5 Open the pack.mcmeta file and change "The default data for Minecraft" to "Custom Records"
  • #6 Create a new assets folder → a new Minecraft folder → a new sound folder → a new record folder
  • #7 Drag the lang file into the new Minecraft folder, next to the sound one
  • #8 Convert the music records into the .ogg format
  • #9 Place the converted music records into the record folder
  • #10 Open the en_us.json file in the lang folder → change the name of a music disc (just choose one out of  the 13 available and use "Find" to locate them)
  • #11 Change your records' names according to the music disc you choose
  • #12 Select the assets folder, the pack.mcmeta file, and the pack.png file, then zip them into one
  • #13 Move them into the resource pack folder
  • #14 Open the game, find the corresponding music discs, and enjoy!

That concludes our guide on How To Get Discs in Minecraft. They're loot-exclusive items that players can not craft in the game. However, the content or the track of each disc can be changed according to your wish, using a mod or a resource pack. For more Minecraft guides, visit our website at GuruGamer.com.
