Auto Chess and Battle Royale are the two game genres that have risen to massive popularity in the past couple of years, and now Ubisoft is looking to bring these two ideas together with Might and Magic: Chess Royale, an upcoming title expected to launch later this month for both Android and iOS. Check out its trailer below:
As its title suggest, this game takes place in the Might & Magic universe and will feature many familiar Heroes and Units from the franchise. Prior to the matches, there’s a Scouting Phase that you might want to take a look at to see what the most popular composition among your enemies is. This will help you adjust your strategy and give you an advantage.
From there you’ll jump into a battle against 99 other players. After every round, you’ll earn gold with which you can purchase new units – provided you survive, of course. These units have their own strengths and weaknesses, so which ones you decide to get will have a huge impact on your strategy. Sometimes, you’ll also have to adapt on the fly to deal with unexpected situations. If you manage to become the last one standing at the end, you’ll ascend to a higher position on the ranked ladders.
Ubisoft seems pretty keen on creating an ever-changing meta in this game, as is evident by the fact that there’s a Spell pool that rotates on a daily basis, which players can use to give themselves an advantage. Since the spells are different every day, this has the potential to constantly change the gameplay – that is, if it is implemented well, of course. Otherwise it’d probably end up being ignored by everyone.
In any case, the concept is definitely intriguing. Matches are promised to be only around 10 minutes long, which makes for a perfect fit on the mobile platform. If Ubisoft manages to pull off its intentions, then Might and Magic: Chess Royale could be a fine addition to our game library.
Might and Magic: Chess Royale is set to launch later this month on January 30th for both Android and iOS. It’ll be a free-to-play game with IAPs.
