Oppo Mobiles is teaming up with PUBG Corp and Tencent Games to host a tournament for the hit battle royale game PUBG Mobile in India. Titled "Oppo PUBG Mobile India series 2019", the competition starts next week on January 21 and will last until March 10. The prize pool has also been announced at 1 crore, which will include cash incentives and Oppo phones.
The tournament will be divided into four phases. The first phase, registration, is currently ongoing and will close on January 23. After that are the in-game qualifiers, which begins on January 21 and will go on for a week.
Then come the online playoffs, in which 2,000 teams will compete against each other from February 9 to February 24. The top 20 teams that emerge victorious from this phase will then gather on March 10 to fight for the grand prize. The entire series is going to be livestreamed on the official YouTube channel and Facebook page of Oppo.
The champions of the tournament will get a cash prize of Rs 30,00,000. Meanwhile, the teams in second and third place stand to receive a reward of Rs 10,00,000 and Rs 5,00,000 respectively. Moreover, there will also be individual rewards for players with notable performance, such as the MVP award, Exterminators, Redeemer, Healers, Rampage Freak, and Lone Ranger.
Previously, the Chinese phone manufacturer already held a similar tournament in India last October when it launched the Oppo F9 Pro in the country. Called “PUBG Mobile Campus Championship 2018”, this tournament was reportedly the biggest PUBG Mobile eSports competition held in India up to that point. It featured a total prize pool of 50 lakhs and witnessed over 250,000 registrations from more than 1,000 colleges across the country.
Registration for the upcoming tournament is currently open for all Indian residents who have a PUBG Mobile account with a level higher than 20. Those who are interested in participating can visit the PUBG Mobile official page for more details.
