Earlier this year, developer Mega Crit Games announced that its massively popular roguelike card game Slay the Spire would be making its way to the mobile platform before 2020. Since that announcement, we’ve had a couple of updates on how the port was progressing, but specific details have been scant. Last weekend, though, Mega Crit Games posted a progress report on the official Steam page of the game that finally revealed more about Slay the Spire mobile. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the news that we were waiting for.
According to the report, the Android and iOS version of Slay the Spire has been delayed until next year. A playable build is already available, the developer promises that we’ll be able to enjoy the game on our mobile devices really soon, but it won’t be in this year.
The reason for this is that the team wants to take more than to further polish its product to ensure a smooth mobile launch. According to the report, the console version launched for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in late May – early June this year has given the studio the opportunity to finish most of the engine-related work that’d have an impact on the mobile port.
This news admittedly comes as a little bit of a bummer, as we have been really excited for a few months now to experience Slay the Spire on iPad. The card-based nature of the game would make it a perfect fit for the touch screen too. That said, we’d much rather see the developer take its time to finally release a truly polished game than rush it and push out an unfinished product just to meet the promised deadline. We’ll be sure to keep you updated when there’s more information regarding the official launch date of Slay the Spire mobile, so don’t forget to stay tuned!
