Diamonds were the rarest and strongest minerals in Minecraft before 1.16. However, in the Nether update, Mojang introduces a new rare mineral called Ancient Debris which can only be found in the Minecraft Nether. It can later be processed into Netherite gears, the highest gear tier in the game. Therefore, getting ancient debris to upgrade your gear is very important.

In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the 4 best methods to get ancient debris in Minecraft 1.19.

1. TNT Mining

Due to the fact that ancient debris cannot be destroyed by explosions, players can use explosives like TNT and End Crystal to mine them. Unlike a bed, TNTs can be triggered from afar, which leads to a much quicker and less dangerous farming process. The only drawback is that you might need a gunpowder farm or two to sustain the amount of TNT consumption.

Just mine down to Y level 15 and you are good to go.

Alternatively, players can even use End Crystals, as their explosions are the biggest and therefore have the highest chance to reveal debris. . They cost a lot of resources, however.

2. Bed mining

If you are too lazy and do not mind a bit of danger, bed mining is a good idea. Attempting to sleep in a bed in the Nether, the End, and custom dimensions in which they are disabled causes it to explode and set fire to surrounding blocks. The explosion has a power of 5, which is stronger than TNT.

Bed mining

Firstly, mine your way down to Y = 15, as there will be the highest concentration of ancient debris in the exposed blocks. Craft a number of beds then mining a tunnel. Every 16th block, mine 1x2x5 tunnels (1 block wide, 2 blocks high and 5 blocks long) perpendicular to your main tunnel.

Place a bed in the side tunnel with the head of the bed facing the main tunnel. Trigger it then run away to avoid the explosion - the bed has an explosion power of 5, so you need to be 6 blocks from it. This method is pretty dangerous and you might want to bring protection items such as Totems of Undying, Armor enchanted with Blast Protection and Potions of Fire Resistance.

Come back afterward to get all the ancient debris blocks. Rinse and repeat this process until you have had enough.

3. Loot from chests

Players can actually find ancient debris from a number of chests in the Nether, despite them being one of the hardest resources to find. Firstly, players need to locate a bastion remnant and clear it out. Bastion remnants are large, castle-like generated structures found in the Nether in all of the biomes except basalt deltas. They generate in four distinct variants, each with a unique structure and set of loot.

1-2 blocks of Ancient Debris can spawn in Generic chest, Treasure chest, and Hoglin stable chest. Their spawn rate is pretty low at only 15%, but you should find a couple after clearing out one bastion remnant.

4. Normal mining

This is the simplest method for finding Ancient Debris in Minecraft. It is tedious and not that enjoyable, but it is also the easiest to do. All you need is just a diamond pickaxe with Efficiency II or higher to can mine netherrack instantly. This even allows players to mine while maintaining sprint if they stay at a proper angle.

Strip/branch mining

Generally, just mine in one direction until hit lava then pick another direction. Overall, it is highly recommended to bring a couple of fire resistance potions for emergency measures against lava.
