Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in Minecraft, and in 1.20, it is getting a lot of new features. A few weeks ago during Minecraft Live, the developer revealed quite a few details about the upcoming patch, and the new bamboo blocks are the best among them.
In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the 5 best uses for bamboo in Minecraft 1.20.
1. Feeding pandas
A panda is a rare neutral mob that resides in jungles or bamboo jungles. They mainly eat bamboo and players can domesticate them pretty easily with some.
Pandas are the only animal in Minecraft with extra breeding conditions. Players need to place at least 8 bamboo blocks within a 5 block radius of both pandas for them to enter love mode. Afterward, feeding them bamboo causes them to mate and create a baby panda. Upon successful breeding, 1–7 experience is dropped.
Without a sufficient number of bamboo blocks in the vicinity, the Pandas would just sit and eat the bamboo without breeding. Furthermore, if the player feeds two pandas too close, they can bleat and become hostile.
2. Farm bamboo to use as fuel
As bamboo grows very fast, players can easily find a considerable amount of them to burn and smelt items. All they need is an efficient bamboo farm. Players can even use bone meal to grow bamboo instantly to 12-16 blocks tall.
When farming, the first stage of the plant is delicate and can be destroyed if water flows through it. This is very similar to sugar cane and therefore a sugar cane farm can be easily adapted to this use. Players don't need water for a bamboo farm if they plan on manual harvesting, however, they might need to put some spacing.
Harvesting the plant is extremely easy since you only have to hit it once to break the entire bamboo tower. Alternatively, you can create an auto-harvest farm with observers, pistons, hoppers and chests.
3. Craft scaffolding
Scaffolding is a block used when building structures to help the player reach higher places, or to descend safely without fall damage. Players can craft them by placing 3 bamboos in the first and third column, then putting a string between them, on the top row.
The placement of scaffolding is different from any other blocks in the game. When pressing use on the side of a scaffolding, the scaffolding is added on top of the highest scaffolding in that location. This allows the player to build the scaffolding structure higher and higher while standing on the ground.
Scaffolding can be easily dismantled by destroying the bottom block. This allows players to change their build at any time.
4. Building with bamboo blocks
Bamboo blocks are going to have all the functions a normal wood block has. Players can use bamboo wood to craft bamboo planks, blocks, and more.
Additionally, bamboo wood can also be used to create bamboo mosaic blocks, which have horizontal and vertical bamboo designs. They are going to be great decoration materials and can also be converted into stairs and slabs.
5. Craft bamboo raft
In 1.20, players can use bamboo to create an alternative to the boat, the bamboo raft. They have pretty much the same function and would look better in particular builds.
Just craft a boat using bamboo planks and it would automatically turn into a raft. Players can add a chest to it, just like a boat.
