GTA: San Andreas was stated to be a major release for its Meta Quest VR headsets in 2021. However, as of now, Meta has confirmed the highly anticipated VR version of GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely. According to a Meta representative, both Rockstar Games and Meta are focusing on other projects. This might be one of the reasons.

Since Meta has the top-selling VR headset line, GTA: San Andreas could have been a big hit and helped boost the popularity of virtual reality. This would have been beneficial for both Rockstar and Meta. However, one of the top reasons for the decision to delay is the negative reception of the remastered version of GTA: San Andreas.

The next reason is allegedly because of serious technical problems. The project had trouble meeting the high visual and performance standards needed for VR, partly due to the issues with GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

For these reasons, bringing the iconic open world to VR is truly a complex task. Although there could be potential for future VR versions of GTA: San Andreas or other Rockstar titles, the company currently seems to be focusing on other priorities.
