Developers Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK have worked with the publisher Modus Games to bring out their latest 2D JRPG title - Cris Tale. They've announced the game at recent PCGaming E3 conference, and also provide us with a beautiful hype trailer.
You can watch the announcement trailer below:
The story of Cris Tale
In the game, you'll take control of a newly awakened time wizard Crisbell. The world of Crystallis and the Four Kingdoms is facing the threat of Time Empress, and Crisbell is on her duty to prevent the cataclysm. In order to do that, she has to use her power to acknowledge the past and act in the real-time to affect the future.
As Crisbell made her journey, she’ll meet and team up with many mighty allies, including Matias the Frog and Willhelm the Child Mage. Each of them has their own abilities and skills, which will help Crisbell fulfill her duty.
During her journey, Crisbell will have to decide what to do with the people she meets. Her decisions will alter the future, providing her with many routes to deal with the enemies. They will also affect the real-time world that you're experiencing.
Main features
Cris Tale is a Japanese role-playing game that took the inspiration from the timeless JRPG, namely Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, and Valkyrie Profile. Additionally, the developers revealed that the game was also inspired by other recent games such as Persona 5 and Bravely Default.
Through the trailer, we can see that the game will split the current frame into three parts - the past, the present, and the future. This will allow you can Crisbell to peer into the past, decide in the present to change the future. That's the only way for the time wizard to shape her own future, and stop the Time Empress.
With the power to look at different eras of the enemies, you can make the most suitable decision on how to deal with them. The game features turn-based combat, in which you have to time your attack or defense precisely. As your allies are always beside you, you'll also have to choose the right abilities combination to put your team's potential over the limits.
The Time Empress's plot to ruin the world is ultimately complex with many layers. You'll have to use your intelligence and the help from your friends to defeat it and reach the happy ending of this fairy tale world.
Personally, I'm quite doubtful of the branding statement "a love letter to the classic JRPG". And the fact that the developers put Bravely Default on the same line with other 3 epic titles makes me even more doubtful. I think I'll have to try out this game and see it for myself!
Supported platforms and release date
Cris Tale is due to officially release in 2020, but there is a demo version of the game on Steam that will come out in two weeks!
The game will support a lot of platforms, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, so don't miss out such a promising title on your device!
