Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 has once again sent Cyberpunk 2077 player counts soaring. The Netflix anime dropped all ten episodes on October 20, 2026, as a standalone story set in Night City with an all-new cast of edgerunners. Studio Trigger handled the animation under director Kai Ikarashi, with series composition by Masahiko Otsuka. Early reviews, including a 9/10 from IGN, praised the action, violence, and corporate intrigue even if it did not quite match Season 1's impact for some viewers.

CD Projekt Red timed a free major update to the premiere. Update 2.5, also called the Edgerunners 2 Update, launched on October 22 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S (with Switch 2 following shortly). It adds gameplay features inspired by the anime alongside broader improvements that give returning players fresh reasons to dive back into Night City.
- Dual-wielding playstyle: The new Double Trouble perk in the Cool tree lets players dual-wield Power-category pistols and revolvers for the first time, opening up a whole new combat approach.
- Customizable cyberware: Five new Glamdoc vendors let players reskin hand implants like Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and the Projectile Launch System with dozens of new looks and colors.
- New story content: A side quest called Clampdown ties into the anime, features voice actors from the series, and rewards a gear set. Additional quests and a new radio station with anime tracks round it out.
- Cross-platform mod support: Modding is now easier than ever and available on consoles for the first time via mod.io, alongside quality-of-life additions like a field-of-view slider.
The combination of the anime, Update 2.5, and a timely sale has driven a major surge. On Steam, concurrent players climbed past 150,000 and kept rising as of late October, reaching the game's second-highest peak since launch. The all-time high remains the roughly 274,000 seen during the Phantom Liberty DLC in 2023. Earlier teaser announcements in June had already pushed peaks near 100,000, showing the anime's consistent pull on the community.
This mirrors the 2022 Season 1 effect, which helped revive interest and sales after the game's rocky 2020 launch. With more than 40 million copies sold, Cyberpunk 2077 continues to draw both veterans refining new builds and newcomers exploring Night City for the first time. The streets are packed once more.
