Experts have analyzed the newly discovered higher-quality version of the GTA 6 trailer. This has given them a clearer view and a better understanding of the graphics features Rockstar Games has added to the game.

Last week, a fan uncovered a better-quality version of the GTA VI trailer. Rockstar had uploaded this trailer to Bilibili back in December 2023, but since the platform is primarily for Chinese users and the video was behind a paywall, it went unnoticed by most fans.

The fan gained access to the improved version of the GTA 6 trailer by signing up for Bilibili Premium. As highlighted in our comparison article, the quality upgrades are noticeable. Details that were previously difficult to see because of size or shadows are now much clearer and easier to examine.

This prompted the graphics experts at Digital Foundry to take a closer look. In their latest podcast episode, the team discusses the various improvements they've spotted, thanks to the higher bitrate.

The biggest improvement they noticed is in the reflections. There's much more detail visible throughout the entire trailer in this area. For example, screen space reflections are clear on the water, while materials like plastic and metal show ray-traced reflections.

In the overhead shot of the car show, Oliver from Digital Foundry points out that we can see screen space shadows cast on the NPCs. However, not all of the shadows are perfectly aligned with the pedestrians. Despite this issue, it's still a new and more realistic technology compared to what we've seen in previous Rockstar games like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Another major graphics improvement over the previous game is the windows and the interiors of buildings. While they aren't real, they look incredibly well done. Oliver speculates that they might even be using ray tracing or a parallax technique to create the illusion of interiors behind the windows.

In other news, Kai Cenat announced that he plans to stream GTA VI on release day and won’t stop until he has 100% completed it. Additionally, Rockstar Games appears to have teased one of the cars from the trailer in the current GTA Online Event Week.
