Igloos are structures that are naturally generated in snowy biomes. Made primarily from snow blocks, they are small round structures that can sometimes be hard to detect. 1 - About Igloos in Minecraft
Igloos do not spawn in all snowy biomes. They only generate in snowy tundra, snowy taiga, and snowy slopes biomes, but not in snowy mountains, ice spikes, snowy taiga hills, or other variants. In fact, igloos are hard to encounter in the game for spawning in the rarest biomes in Minecraft.
Inside an igloo is a small carpeted room, containing a crafting table, furnace, and bed. This makes them instant base if players are lucky enough to spawn in the area. Furthermore, sometimes an igloo spawns with a secret room below the main room, which contains valuable items.
2 - How to find Igloos in Minecraft
As igloos only spawn in snowy tundra, snowy taiga, and snowy slopes, it is vital that you know how to find biomes in Minecraft first then explore them to seek igloos. Below are their details:
- The snowy taiga's signature is the spruce trees, as no tree species other than spruce will grow naturally in a snowy taiga biome. Their tops are covered with snow.
- The snowy tundra is the rare ice plains, which is a mix between plains and taiga biomes. Trees are not common here, with the entire area blanketed with snow.
- Snowy slopes are steep terrain leading up to the peak biomes and are also covered in snow.
Afterward, just run around until you find one. They are a little bit hard to detect so you need to be careful. However, if you are too lazy to manually locating them, just use cheats /locate igloo to get the location of the nearest igloo to your location.
3 - How to loot Igloos in Minecraft
The rate for a basement to spawn in Igloos are 50%. If it has a basement, you can find an oak trapdoor. It is located under the third white carpet straight ahead from the doorway. Follow the long ladder shaft to get to the basement.
Be careful, as some of the blocks of this passageway and the basement are infested - they spawn silverfishes when broken.
- You can find a brewing stand, a cauldron and a chest in the basement. Furthermore, beyond the far wall, there are 2 villagers locked inside 2 different cages. One is a normal villager and the other is a zombie villager.
- The zombie villager can be cured with a splash potion of Weakness in the brewing stand and the golden apple in the chest. Be careful, as this may make the zombie villager lose its profession. You can change their profession later with the presence of the brewing stand and cauldron. Turning them back to normal is required for trading.
- In Java Edition, the generated villager is always unemployed, while the generated zombie villager is always a cleric.
- In Bedrock Edition, the villager has a random profession while the zombie villager is unemployed.
