Food changes Jason and Lucia's weight. Exercise builds and tones muscle. Days on the run, or on a bender, show up on their faces. Gyms help decide how the couple looks and how they hold up in a chase.

Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said the studio wants players to shape the pair without losing who they are. He also confirmed dedicated gyms. "We do have gyms where you can go and work out, so you can go up in levels of muscularity or strength." You can train alone or together. A joint visit lets both work out in one stop.

How a gym session works

Gyms are playable spaces, not cutscenes. Footage shows indoor clubs, outdoor racks, Jason on a beach bench press, and Lucia on a heavy bag. Preview reports say you register at the front desk and buy a membership before machines unlock.

Equipment includes the bench press, squat rack, treadmill, heavy bag, and pull-up stations. Sessions use timing and trigger inputs. Rushing reps or missing the beat burns extra stamina. Train enough and higher weights unlock. Vending machines sell protein shakes that improve gains and energy drinks that help you finish more reps.

The gym is optional. Skipping it will not stop the story. It leaves both characters closer to their starting body and stamina.

Looks and performance

Exercise visibly builds muscle. Overeating can add weight and a belly. Missed sleep and long police pursuits wear the face. Those changes carry into missions and free roam.

Jason starts as an ex-military drug runner. Lucia is fresh out of prison. Fitness still moves them along a range: softer if they live on takeout, more defined if they keep showing up.

Previews say the game tracks weight, muscle, fat, strength, calories, nutrition, sleep, health, cardio, and stamina. Eating can give a large health buff, even when the food is bad for body composition. Cardio and lifting raise how long they can sprint, swim, or fight. Running in the world can trigger a cardio workout prompt, so everyday movement feeds the same system. Strength is expected to help melee and physical tasks, though Rockstar has not published exact combat numbers.

One body each, one lifestyle loop

Each character has a separate body. You can keep them matched or specialize, such as a heavier Jason and a lighter Lucia. Food is the other half of the loop. Sleep is the recovery layer. Multi-day benders and long chases sit beside missed rest. Hair does not grow on its own. Fitness is the system that drifts if you ignore it.

The idea comes from San Andreas, where Carl Johnson gained fat or muscle and felt it in movement and fights. GTA 6 applies that idea to two leads and folds sleep and visible wear into the same model.

What is still unknown

Rockstar has not said how many sessions it takes to change shape, how fast muscle fades, or how much extra sprint time a trained character gets. Treat the gym as optional power and self-expression until the game is out.

GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
