Glow berries are rare glowing food items in Minecraft that can only be found inside lush cave biomes. They function similarly to Sweet Berries - each Glow Berry restores 2 Hunger and 0.4 Saturation. As they glow in the dark, Glow berries are excellent decoration items for your base.

In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase how to create a glow berry farm in Minecraft.

1. How to acquire Glow Berries for seeding

There are 2 ways to get glow berries for creating a farm. Players can either loot them inside Dungeon chests or harvest them from cave vines in the lush cave biome.

To locate a lush cave, a player must first locate an azalea tree on the surface of the overworld. Azalea looks almost identical to an oak tree, except for the presence of purple flowers growing on it. Once you find one, dig down and trace its roots until you reach the lush cave biome below.

Be very careful not to fall to the bottom if you are standing from a high location, as falling more than a few blocks high can cause damage to a player depending on the height. Afterward, move around the cave system to harvest the berries. Just destroy the cave vine they are clinging to for them to drop down.

2. How to create your Glow Berry farm

Glow berries can be placed on and grown from the bottom of most blocks. They have no specific lighting requirements. When placed, they become cave vines, and each cave vine block will have a one out of nine chance to grow a single glow berry. However, you can forcefully make the cave vine produce a glow berry by simply using a bone meal on the cave vine itself.

Below is a step by step guide to creating a simple glow berry farm:

Step 1

Prepare any stack of blocks for building such as cobblestones or planks. As glow berry can only be grown on the underside of a block, players need to build a platform in the air, of any size they want.

Step 2

Place the grow berries on the underside of the platform for them to glow into cave vines.

Step 3

Create an automatic collection system. Just place a system of chest + piston + observer + hopper under the vine. The hopper should be connected to the chest in order for the glow berries to be transported inside the chest automatically. Players can make as many of these based on the size of the farm.

3. What are the uses of Glow Berries in Minecraft

Create cave vines

Players can place Glow berries under blocks to create cave vines for decoration. It also prevents hostile mobs from spawning, as when bearing glow berries, cave vines give off a light level of 14.

A composter is a block that converts some biological material into bone meal. It also serves as a farmer villager's job site block. Players can place glow berries into a composter - it has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Players can place bone meal on almost any plant or tree to boost their growth immediately. Keep in mind that Bone Meal fertilization has a chance of failing. Therefore, it might cost you more than one piece of bone meal to grow certain plants.

Bone meal's main purpose is for fertilizing plants, allowing them to grow much bigger than usual.

There are only a few plants that bone meal has no effect: Cactus, Vines, Nether wart, Chorus plants, and Sugar cane (Java Edition).

Breeding foxes

Glow berries can be fed to foxes to breed them. Foxes are similar to cats when being fed as a wild animal; a sudden movement by the player may cause the fox to flee even if the player holds glow berries. The resulting baby fox trusts the player and does not flee.

If a red fox is bred with a snow fox, the baby has a 50% chance of being either red or snow. Otherwise, the result would be the same as the parent foxes. This means players need to find at least one red/snow fox to get more of the same type.

Now that the baby fox is there you can either feed it berries to accelerate its growth or wait for it to become an adult. However, because baby foxes also follow nearby adult foxes, an adult running away from the player may cause the baby to do the same. Therefore, players can use a lead to prevent a baby fox from running away.

Foxes attack specific mobs that hurt a player they trust.
