The Minecraft 1.20 Trails and Tales update will introduce numerous fresh elements such as blocks, features, and items, as announced by Mojang. Among these new additions are smithing templates, which are completely new items. The usage and functionality of the smithing table will be entirely revamped using these new items.
However, it is rather hard to find these templates as they spawn all over the Minecraft world. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase how to find all Smithing Templates in Minecraft 1.20.
1. Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template
Players can find Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template as a guaranteed drop in the Bastion Remnant's Treasure Chest. Hoglin stable chest, Bridge chest and Generic chest have a template spawn chance of 10%.
Bastion remnants have 4 parts: bridges, hoglin stables, housing units, and treasure rooms. Each part has its unique structures that make them up. The structures may be held up by ramparts that contain cave-like passageways. Piglins, piglin brutes, and hoglins spawn regularly throughout the bastion remnants. In contrast to nether fortresses, bastion remnants do not generate solid pillars down to the terrain below when over the lava ocean but instead float evenly above it.
2. Coast Armor Trim Smithing Template
In Minecraft, a shipwreck is a generated structure found in ocean biomes. It is made of various materials, including wood and cobblestone, and may appear partially or fully submerged in water. Coast Armor Trims can be found inside shipwreck chests in the overworld, which is relatively easy to locate. The spawn chance of this template is 16.7%.
Nevertheless, the number of chests in each shipwreck is unpredictable, and sometimes there might be no chest at all. Hence, obtaining this trim can be slightly more demanding. Moreover, players may need to make additional arrangements for underwater exploration.
Overall, the Coast Armor Trims' appearance is likely worth the trouble, as it features a stylish strip design with a downward curve.
3. Dune Armor Trim Smithing Template
To obtain this specific trim, players must search for a hidden chest inside the underground chamber of Minecraft Desert Temples, while avoiding a TNT trap. The good news is that the temple has four chests, allowing players to obtain multiple templates in a single attempt. Each chest has a 14.3% chance to spawn the template.
In Minecraft, a desert temple is a structure generated randomly in desert biomes. It is made of sandstone and has a distinctive appearance, featuring a pyramid-like shape with a flat top. The Dune pattern bears a striking resemblance to the temple's exterior.
4. Eye Armor Trim Smithing Template
The Eye Armor Trim is arguably one of the most impressive designs, featuring a large Eye of Ender shape on the chest plate, accompanied by stylish geometric patterns on the other armor pieces.
To acquire this trim, players must search for stronghold chests. Library chests have a 100% chance to spawn this template, while altar chest has only a 10% chance.
Strongholds are generated randomly in the world and can be found by using an Eye of Ender, which points towards the stronghold's location when thrown. Inside the stronghold, players can find various rooms, such as libraries, corridors, and prison cells, as well as valuable items, including enchanted books and Ender pearls.
5. Rib Armor Trim Smithing Template
In Minecraft, a nether fortress is a substantial construction located in the Nether dimension. It is comprised of bridges, corridors, and towers that create a maze-like layout. Within the fortress, players can find chests, typically placed at turns in the corridors of the indoor sections.
The Rib armor trim template has a 6.7% chance to spawn inside these chests. It is inspired by the wither skeletons found in the fortresses and features wrapped, skeleton-like ribs throughout the armor, making it a unique design compared to other trims available in the game.
6. Sentry Armor Trim Smithing Template
In Minecraft, a Pillager Outpost is a generated structure found in the overworld. It is comprised of several wooden towers, surrounded by a fence and often situated on top of a hill. In Minecraft 1.20, the Sentry Armor Trim is found in the chest located on top of Pillager Outposts in the overworld. Compared to the other armor trims, this one is relatively easy to obtain - each chest has a 25% chance to spawn the trim.
The Sentry Armor Trim has a simple design that adds stripes to the player's armor. The helmet is particularly notable as the stripes resemble the eyes and noses of different mobs in the game. However, the chest plate looks mostly the same.
7. Silence and Ward Armor Trim Smithing Template
Minecraft 1.19 has introduced a new feature called Ancient Cities, situated in the Deep Dark biome. These massive structures are located in the deepest part of the overworld, between Y level -11 and -41. The cities have various chests filled with valuable items that players can collect, but they should be careful as the Warden could be a danger.
In 1.20, players can obtain two types of armor trims from chests found in the Ancient Cities: Silence and Ward. These armor trims have a drop chance of 1.2% and 5%, respectively. This means players might need to go through a lot of ancient city chests to get them.
The design of the Ward trim features a square in the center of the chest armor, while the other pieces have simple lines. The Silence armor trim looks somewhat similar to the warden.
8. Snout Armor Trim Smithing Template
The Snout Armor Trim is another design that can be found in the chests of Bastion Remnants. Unlike the Netherite update, it has only a 8.3% chance to appear.
As the name implies, this armor trim features two nostril-like shapes on the top. However, the rest of the design does not resemble a pig's head. Instead, it features a simple pattern with a small box in the middle, along with a curved line and a straight line on top.
9. Spire Armor Trim Smithing Template
The ultimate template in Minecraft is the Spire Armor Trim, and it is obtainable by looting End City chests in the End dimension. This design features a simple stripe on the helmet, while the feet and arms get a checkered pattern, and the chestplate and leggings receive a set of curved lines.
It is also one of the rarest templates, with a spawn chance of 6.7%.
10. Vex Armor Trim Smithing Template
To obtain the Vex Armor Trim in Minecraft, players can explore the Woodland Mansion and locate the chests after defeating all the pillagers present in the area. Since this structure is uncommon, it is recommended to carefully search every room to avoid missing any chests. It has the second highest chance to spawn at 50%.
The Vex Armor Trim design features eyelash-like patterns resembling those of Vex creatures on the helmet, and a horizontal line similar to the Evoker's robe on the chest plate.
11. Wild Armor Trim Smithing Template
The Wild armor trim can be obtained from jungle temple chests, which can be quite challenging to navigate due to the presence of traps and low visibility. This trim adds a crystal-shaped design to the chest and back of the armor, along with some accompanying strips. The difficulty of obtaining it can vary depending on the seed used.
Players can find Jungle Temples by exploring jungle biomes. The trim has a 33% chance to spawn, which is fairly high.
12. Tide Armor Trim Smithing Template
The Tide Armor Trim is a unique armor template in Minecraft that is not found in chests. Instead, players must venture into an Ocean Monument and defeat the Elder Guardian to obtain it, which can be a challenging task as it requires water breathing and proper gear. The drop chance is also fairly low at 20%.
Despite this, the design of the Tide Armor Trim makes it worth the effort. The helmet resembles a face and the chest plate features an emblem created by two lines. The leggings have a joint curve that adds to the expressive design. Additionally, the emblem of the trim can also be seen on the back of the helmet.
13. Wayfinder, Shaper, Raiser and Host Armor Trim
In Minecraft's Trails & Tales update, players can discover a new type of buried structure known as Trail Ruins as part of the Archeology feature. These ruins offer players the opportunity to obtain a range of new items, including Armor Trims and pottery shards.
Trail Ruins are scattered across two biomes in the game: the Ocean Biome and Sparse Jungles. Players will need to be on the lookout for Suspicious Sand or Suspicious Gravel, as these blocks often indicate the presence of Trail Ruins beneath them.
There are 4 types of Armor Trim that can be obtained from Trail Ruins - Wayfinder, Shaper, Raiser and Host. However, the chance of them appearing is only 1.8%, which is the second-lowest probability.
