Electronic Arts has confirmed that its DICE and Respawn Entertainment studios will collaborate on a future shooter project. Multiple sources told Variety that this unannounced title is Star Wars: Battlefront 3 for Lucasfilm.

The news arrived in an internal EA memo shared amid significant company changes, including roughly 400 layoffs and the closure of BioWare. EA described the partnership as part of efforts to grow its shooter lineup, drawing on lessons from the successful launch of Battlefield 6.
- DICE previously developed the 2015 and 2017 Star Wars Battlefront games, known for large-scale multiplayer battles involving infantry, vehicles, and iconic heroes.
- Respawn brings experience from the Star Wars Jedi action-adventure series plus first-person shooter work on Titanfall and Apex Legends.
- EA has not officially named the project or shared any release window, platforms, or specific features.
Earlier this week, reports indicated Lucasfilm was seeking a development partner for a new Battlefront entry. Electronic Gaming Monthly and industry figures mentioned both DICE and Bungie as potential candidates. Wardogs CEO Joe Brammer later stated on X that he had heard DICE and Respawn were already working together on Battlefront 3.
The previous Battlefront game, released in 2017, drew strong criticism at launch over its loot box progression system. EA eventually removed those elements, and the title still attracted a large player base focused on team-based combat across ground and space modes. A new entry could build on that foundation with updated large maps, improved vehicle handling, and expanded hero abilities drawn from more recent Star Wars stories.
No concrete gameplay details have emerged yet. Fans familiar with the series expect a return to massive multiplayer matches featuring mixed infantry and vehicle combat, hero characters with unique abilities, and objective-based modes that capture the scale of Star Wars battles. Whether the collaboration will deliver refined gunplay from Respawn alongside DICE’s large-scale destruction systems remains unknown.
Until EA or Lucasfilm makes an official announcement, the project stays in the realm of strong reporting rather than confirmed fact. The combination of the two studios has already generated significant interest among players hoping for a fresh take on Star Wars multiplayer combat.
